1. What's wrong with the Giva ad?
Nothing you see on TV/advertisement or/big screen, especially in big budget projects, is innocent or accidental
The Giva ad continues a broader trend in how film-entertainment and ad industries have treated cultural sensitivities of the two majority communities very differently for years - something Gems of Bollywood has exposed so clearly
Look at the way popular culture has marketed Hindu festivals for years. For instance, check any compilation for suggestions for Diwali playlist:
“Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai”
“Let’s Nacho”
“Tamma Tamma Again”
But typical suggestions for Eid playlist:
“Noor-e-Khuda”
“Maula Ali”
“Kun Faya Kun”
Typical media suggestions for Diwali outfit ideas these days: sexualised styling - cleavage, revealing blouses, familiar Bollywood glamour
Typical outfit suggestions for Eid: Rich and covered
This means that they know what cultural sensitivity looks like, what a family gathering looks like, what sanctity of a festival looks like
But they apply it only where they want
The test of their intention is simple. Look at the image attached. Imagine her holding a plate for Iftari and the text saying Eid. Will any brand ever run such an ad?
2. Are these ads really made to increase sales during Rakhi?
The primary purpose of such an advertisement is not to sell jewellery for Rakhi. Conduct a market survey. Show consumers the ad and ask them whether the imagery is prompting them to buy Giva jewellery on Rakhi for their sisters. I doubt the answer would be overwhelmingly yes
Modern advertising works at a deeper level than simply saying buy this product. It is often aimed at shaping long-term attitudes
When the same kind of imagery is repeatedly used around certain festivals, weddings and family occasions, it leads to normalisation of a particular culture
Much of it seems to be aimed at creating a society where every aspect of a woman's life is sexualised. I would say it is the same mindset that wants to legalise adult men having sex with schoolgirls
3. How should the public respond?
Stop treating these celebrities as icons and withdraw your interest from them
The same actress as in the ad did Thumkeshwari item number and then pretended to be Ma Sita on screen - until we vehemently opposed it, ran a campaign, people responded and the movie bombed
Reject them from every aspect of your life where you have a choice
Fun Without Responsibility Is a Curse: Bengaluru Deserves Better Than Drunken Street Chaos
This is not the culture of Bengaluru. Do not ruin the image of Namma Bengaluru by turning our roads into places of chaos in the name of parties and New Year celebrations. Seeing youths drunk, falling on the streets, fighting, abusing others, and creating nuisance in public spaces is shameful and unacceptable.Bengaluru has always been known for its culture, civility, and inclusive values. Our city respects and welcomes people from every state and every background who come here to work hard, build their careers, and live peacefully. That openness and mutual respect are what make Bengaluru truly great. However, in the name of celebration, some individuals are ruining this spirit and giving our city a bad image.Celebration does not mean losing self-control. Enjoyment does not give anyone the right to block roads, create fear, disrespect women, damage public property, or disturb others who simply want to live in peace. Such behaviour projects a wrong and ugly image of Bengaluru, not only to locals but also to people across the country and the world. It unfairly puts a bad face on our culture, which has always stood for respect, harmony, and dignity. Those who behave irresponsibly must understand that culture is reflected in conduct, not in loud music, alcohol, or viral videos. If you truly love this city, respect its streets, its people, and its values. Celebrating responsibly is everyone’s duty—whether you are a local or someone who has chosen Bengaluru as your home. At the same time, a heartfelt thank you to the @BlrCityPolice and all police officials who sacrificed their own celebrations so that others could celebrate safely. Their tireless efforts, long hours, and commitment ensured safety, security, and order across the city while many were enjoying the festivities. Their service and dedication deserve respect and appreciation.Namma Bengaluru deserves better. Let us protect its culture, unity, and reputation. Do not let reckless behaviour in the name of celebration turn our proud, welcoming culture into a bad face for the world to see—because this city is not just a party spot, it is our shared home.

Nitin Gadkari is shifting India from BS6 to BS7 emission norms
But Mercedes, BMW, & all automakers believe India is making a huge mistake!
BS7 is a copy of EURO7 norms which are considered mind-bogglingly stupid as it’ll kill diesel vehicles!
THREAD: Why they might be right🧵

Indians are worried about USA elections & Paris Olympics woke show. Meanwhile, in India, there's a legit demand for Reservation in private sector being discussed in Lok Sabha.
How did this insane demand even reach Parliament?
Things are getting batshit crazy.
In the course of his conversation with His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji, a devotee asked, “Is there any particular verse in the Bhagavad Gita that Your Holiness considers to be the most striking?” The sage acknowledged the question with a smile and said, “I like the verse ‘Adveshtaa sarva bhoothaanaam maitrah karuna evacha...’” (Chapter XII/verse-13).
The devotee politely sought the reason why His Holiness would consider this verse to be the most appealing to Him. His Holiness said, “The verse lists the qualities that one should cultivate to make this human life fruitful. I always keep these in mind while treading the path of life.”

Urban voter share increased for BJP.
Urban voters must introspect what they have got in the last 10 years.
Are any medical facilities improved, roads improved, drinking water, public education, public transport, cleanliness etc?
Is your savings improved, tax burden reduced?
Reservation itself is a SCAM!!
As long as you keep giving unfair advantage to any group during selections, people will keep cheating the system to somehow gain that advantage!!
