On this day in 1944, Claus von Stauffenberg planted a bomb inside the Wolfs Lair in an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler and take control of Germany.

The plot fails and the Furher survives, Stauffenberg and his fellow conspirators are executed by firing squad.
