@Rigamortiiz No, the contradiction here is in your not reading what I said, which was that children asserting that, as told by someone at their darrer, "Christmas is bad." If you think that counts as tolerance then you need a new dictionary.
@DrKebsun@Tinfoil_Hijabi I'm not a Christian but being white it is assumed I am, and for the past ten years, every year, the children, and many adults, have made the usual social overtures.
This year children (many) are forthrightly saying "Christmas is bad". Have never experienced this before.
My eleventh Christmas here is notable for the unusual anti-Christmas sentiment among local children, very different from past years.
Local darrers it seems are this year actively telling the children Christmas is a bad thing.
@Tinfoil_Hijabi Of course not, but most years the children see Xmas as a holiday and a time for fun, parties, etc. This year, for the first time ever, I'm hearing lots of children locally say Christmas is, their words, "bad", which they confirm is what they are being told at Darrer.
@Rigamortiiz That's a pretty dumb response. Who said anyone harmed anybody? It was an observation on the contradiction in supposedly tolerant Islamic attitudes towards other religions. And I am not a Christian so it is not my celebration.
Netherlands will lockdown over Christmas. Bye, bye Dutch tourists.
It looks likely UK will lockdown from December 26.
Another catastrophic tourist season looms for The Gambia.

@lare_sisay Was thinking more broadly than just ZA, which agreed has a good reputation since Mandela's tenure.
But constitutional safeguards need to be in place, as Zimbabwe, Uganda and Gambia's own recent history show.
@lare_sisay The only flaw there being it will be the government that will decide what is fake or misinformation.
As Trump has taught us, it's very easy for a govt. to dismiss anything it doesn't like as fake news.
@mamajohm Sadly it reflects what happens at home.
Domestic and gender-based violence awareness has made big strides this past ten years, but beating children is still totally acceptable, it seems.

The next Gambian government might want to keep this in mind as it cosies up to foreign capital.
