Gary Neville criticises Thomas Tuchel’s tactics after England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina.

🗣️ “I’m absolutely stunned by what I’ve just watched. England didn’t lose because Argentina were unbeatable they lost because they completely abandoned everything that got them to the semi-final. Thomas Tuchel has to take the biggest share of the blame.”

“You score against the defending world champions, you’ve got the momentum, the crowd behind you and confidence flowing… and then you decide to park the bus? I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes. That isn’t smart football that’s surrender.”

“The message from the touchline was obvious: ‘Drop deeper, protect the lead and hope for the best.’ Against Lionel Messi? Against Argentina? That’s one of the biggest tactical mistakes you’ll ever see in a World Cup semi-final.”

“The deeper England dropped, the more comfortable Argentina became. Every minute they spent defending invited more pressure. Messi started finding space, Argentina started believing, and England completely lost control of the game. It was like watching a slow-motion collapse.”
