On Thursday, May 25, the National Weather Service at Newport/Morehead City issued a Beach Hazards Statement and High Surf Advisory for the Outer Banks beaches north of Cape Hatteras.

After several years of wending its way through the courts, the lawsuit filed by the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) challenging the construction of the Mid-Currituck Bridge appears to have run its course.
It's a stormy day on the Outer Banks, and thanks to some heavy rain and wind, there are areas of standing water and blown sand on NC12 between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe. Please DRIVE CAREFULLY through these areas. We do NOT expect any ocean overwash from this storm at this time.
