To have modern team sports, you need modern travel. Otherwise it's just some guys from the local area getting together to throw a ball around. Once you can travel to the next town over in a couple of hours, it makes sense to get a few guys together from the nearest few towns and have a competition. Everything else follows from there.
Also, as a bonus, you need a culture that has enough spare time and resources to put into something like that.
@DemLiiberials@Billhelmich You, and people like you, are the reason I open carry a full size pistol. It changes my life not at all, but it makes yours worse *by your own choice*, which makes the whole thing... Perfect.
@nevyn123@0x4bs3nt I never really understood this argument that "the AI changes tons of files for a small change", it really doesn't. Maybe people who have this issue are bad at prompting, or organizing their sessions? You ask it to do one thing, commit that thing. Boom, small clean commits.
@0x4bs3nt It was hardly more than months ago where it *wasn't* cope, so I'll let people have some slack if they aren't being retarded about it. HOWEVER, there are a lot of retards who have not updated their programming.
@FlorinMusetoiu@Mathieulh I really like the zflip. It makes the phone smaller in a way that is useful to a man with pockets. Although I wish I could get one with no cover screen.
@GeekerStack@loktar00 It doesn't matter. The price/performance gap is so huge that I'm willing to accept a worse model. I can afford to use as much DeepSeek as I want. If I used Claude I would need to limit myself extremely.
My father has hit nearly 20 deer in his life. The perils of driving to work in the morning when it is still dark in Michigan.
Funny story: When I was a kid, the Michigan DNR (game wardens) swore up and down that Michigan did not have enough deer, populations were far too low, and they had to issue fewer hunting permits. This was obviously insane. See, if you ever visit Michigan, look at the treeline of any woods. All the trees are neatly trimmed... By deer. There are no leaves below head height for a common white tail. I have personally seen herds of over a hundred deer in a single field, drove a mile down the road, and saw a second similar herd. It's *wild*.
Anyway, to return to the core story, that winter there was a big storm just before the DNR flew over to count the deer herd, with another big storm projected to come right after. All the deer were out in the fields digging in the snow for leftover corn and such instead of hanging out in the woods like they normally do.
The very next year, if you owned any land you could get block permits (a special hunting permit that allowed you to shoot deer in bulk) no questions asked. The neighbor farmer got one for >100 deer. It turns out the DNR was just really bad at counting :P Everyone had a full freezer, and the local soup kitchens and food banks had so much venison they couldn't get rid of it all.
@VistaLargaGames For an indie game to reach success, it needs to be original enough to stand out, and it needs to be fun. Being a half-baked copy of twenty other indie games is not gonna end well. A copy can succeed if it is enough better than what it is copying, but it has to actually be better.
Everyone involved in this story is now dead, except dad who's only involvement was telling it to me.
Many years ago when I was but a child, my father worked for a guy who owned a construction company. This man was a close friend of another man who also owned a construction company in the same town. They used to regularly go flying together, and they fucking *hated* the man who owned the local temp agency (for excellent reasons). They had gotten as far as rigging a piece of large PVC pipe to their plane and practicing using it to drop bowling balls in a field when the temp agency guy died, which understandably ended their plans to bomb his house (with bowling balls, not actual bombs).
@plus83489122@DocStrangelove2 It is still an expensive gun. Even assuming it is a repro, the guys who make repro colt monitors out of OO BARs charge out the ass for them. Which still leaves the question: What is some Haitian doing with a gun like that?
@genocsp@DocStrangelove2 To be fair, neither did I until someone pointed it out on a discord I'm in. Checked a couple of old photos, and yup, dude was right every one I found the sling swivel was up by the handguard.
@SoftEngineer@TimSweeneyEpic This too shall pass. AI vegans can only be so loud for so long before the tide of progress crushes them into insignificance.
@PaxiGalaxi@Keroberry1@Sinnoware If your neighbor's business is failing, I'm sure you would be happy to give up a portion of your profits to prop it up. After all, even if he isn't a success, I'm sure his customers would be sad if he had to go do something else that did make money. /s
