No, 50% of gamers are not women.
This claim originated from an ESA global survey that doesn't even account for things like hours played. Meaning: someone who's played a cell phone game for 1 hour would be counted as "a gamer."
Anyone with even a basic grasp of fandoms and hobbies understands that's not how this works. If you read three pages of a comic book once, then put it down and never do it again, you're not a comic book fan. Stating otherwise would just be lying/posing.
When studies and surveys look at who actually calls themselves "gamers," men overwhelmingly outnumber women in the hobby. When studies and surveys look at those who game 10+ hours per week on average, men outnumber women in the hobby. When studies and surveys look at who games on console and PC, men overwhelmingly outnumber women in the hobby.
If you hear these statistics and feel personally attacked by them, it just means you're more interested in pushing a narrative than the truth.
That truth being: gaming is a male hobby... and while women are more than welcomed into it... trying to change it in order to make it into something that it's not because you find it "problematic" just exposes yourself as an outsider, and a tourist.
