A man said to Muḥammad Ibn Wāsiʿ: “Indeed, I love you for the sake of Allāh (ﷻ).”
He replied: “May the One for whose sake you love me also love you. O Allāh, I seek refuge in You from being loved for Your sake while You hate me.” or he said: “You detest me.”
