I'm just staying on here to say every now and then that Jesus is Lord and that fascism is bad. So here is today's message:
Jesus is Lord. Fascism is bad.
@Talique_RTaylor I’d also put some blame on the failure of the democrats to persuade enough Latinos or to effectively combat targeted right-wing disinformation.
@_ryancagle@WeilToGo I’m only disagreeing with you in that “orthodoxy” can’t *do* anything. People decided that orthodoxy didn’t contradict these abuses in order to justify what people wanted to do. Xn faith was co-opted and de-fanged in order to justify evil.
Slavery, nationalism, capitalism, and environmental degradation are antithetical to Christian orthodoxy, so no, the problem is not orthodoxy but too narrow a definition thereof. Christian orthodoxy includes, but is not limited to, creedal formulations.
@WeilToGo Fair critique. My intent is more to broaden what we think of as “orthodox” to include “there is neither slave nor free” etc, which would’ve rendered these abuses incompatible with orthodoxy. The church sinned in ruling that there was no contradiction between faith and such things
@WeilToGo They agree with a comment that says orthodoxy enabled all these things. I agree that people who *considered* themselves orthodox enabled (and still do) all these abuses. What im saying is that any “orthodoxy” that doesn’t prevent these is insufficiently orthodox.
@Talique_RTaylor If someone has to resort to AI to write their sermons for them, I’d venture to wonder if ordained ministry is really where their calling is. Interpreting and proclaiming the Gospel is a core part of the job.
@TEStoneWrites The bread/wine symbolize bringing our whole selves to god; not only God’s creation, but our own creative cultural capacities. See James K. A Smith, desiring the kingdom for more on this.
Does TEC actually have a clergy shortage, or do we have a shortage of clergy willing to work half/quarter-time?What might happen if the denomination subsidized parishes unable to afford a full-time priest?
One thing I don’t understand about the “Jesus is racist” Syro-Phoenician woman takes is that they treat the Lord like a white man talking down to a POC. He’s a rural Judean speaking to a member of the higher class ppl of Tyre and Sidon who took resources from his region
@calvinrobinson “When an alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 19:33-34
