@BadgerTrav@chandler5554 I think the fact that it's up for interpretation rather than being immediately obvious is the most important aspect to all that honestly. Like you can think it was an attempt to tag but if it's not 100% then you kinda just gotta live with what the umpire says. That's baseball
@chandler5554@BadgerTrav@RossGrooters@ScoringChanges ...Ernie's already pivoting, and by the time he'd be in range to ever make any kind of play, Ernie's already well out of the way. And even if that reach was a tag attempt, Ernie doesn't move 3 feet either direction from that point onward
@chandler5554@BadgerTrav@RossGrooters@ScoringChanges Yeah if he wanted the umpire to think it was a tag attempt he really should have reached out further. All that matters in that moment is what the umpire sees. Really can't say he was ever moving with intent to make a play on the runner because by the time he's got the ball...
@RossGrooters@ScoringChanges By the time Gunnar's got control of the ball, Ernie's already pivoting. Gunnar's never outright "moving to tag the runner"; by the time he's close enough to make a realistic attempt, Clement's out of the way. Running towards the runner =/= moving to tag him
Folks all that matters is what the umpire sees. There are intentional actions that you can make to get said umpire on your side. If Gunnar reaches out a little more before throwing to first, that alone is probably good enough to get the call. Just how the game is played y'all
I think if Gunnar makes a tag attempt and makes the runner avoid him he gets the call, but I didnโt see a real tag attempt.
Once a tag attempt is made, a runner has three feet to maneuver, but absent a tag attempt, the runner can go anywhere. I think Henderson should have sold the tag attempt more.
Seaver King is a Top 100 prospect!
