Notice the sequence. No fraud collapsed. No plague struck. Politicians manufactured this crisis with three interventions stacked on top of each other: a land-allocation mandate, a usury ceiling, and a compliance deadline that synchronized every liquidation in the empire. The market did exactly what markets do when the state rigs prices and forces portfolio shifts by decree. It cleared, violently.

Then came the innovation. Tiberius shipped 100 million sesterces from his personal treasury to specially established banks, offering three-year loans at zero interest to any debtor who pledged land worth double the advance. Zero percent. Emergency liquidity. Collateralized lending facilities. You are reading about 2008, written two millennia early, minus the press conferences.

The bailout worked, in the narrow sense that panics end when someone dumps money on them. But study what it rewarded: leveraged land speculation by politically connected senators, the exact class that wrote the laws and then begged for rescue. The small farmer who never borrowed got nothing except the privilege of watching his taxes refill the imperial fisc.

Sound money advocates draw the obvious lesson. Credit crunches under commodity money were failures of legislation: price controls on interest, forced asset allocation, and arbitrary deadlines that turned orderly markets into stampedes. Rome had hard money and still blew itself up, because even hard money cannot protect you from soft-headed lawmakers.

Tiberius at least used his own hoard. Your central bank prints. That counts as progress only if you work there.

Dat gebeurde ook toen ik de feiten deelde over hoe de beruchte –maar in die vorm onbestaande– “97%-consensus” ooit tot stand is gekomen.
Zo gaf bijvoorbeeld slechts ongeveer 0,5% van de onderzochte publicaties expliciet aan dat de menselijke invloed verantwoordelijk was voor meer dan 50% van de opwarming.

➡️ Grok bevestigde dat die 97% consensus niet klopt. Op zich ook niet zo belangrijk want consensus ‘voelt’ als overtuigend heeft weinig of geen bewijswaarde.

De toegepaste truc was dat het bekende 97%-cijfer niet werd berekend op alle 11.944 studies, maar binnen een zorgvuldig uitgekozen en gefilterde subgroep van studies die wel een standpunt innamen over menselijke invloed.

Niet 97% van alle studies.
Maar 97% van die geselecteerde subset van studies.

Misschien goed om nog eens die zogenaamde “97%-van-de-wetenschappers-is-het-erover-eens” claim uit te leggen.

Dus: hoe kwam men aan die 97%?

➡️ In twee stappen.

1️⃣ Selectie van studies met een standpunt:

Er werden in totaal 11.944 studies bekeken.

7.930 daarvan namen géén expliciet standpunt in over de oorzaak van de opwarming: bijna twee derde dus. 🧐

Die werden dan niet meegenomen in de berekening van de consensus over menselijke invloed. 🥴

Dat betekent dat het percentage dus niet op het totaal werd berekend, maar op de groep die wél een positie innam. En dat is minstens misleidend te noemen. 🫣

2️⃣ Brede definitie van “instemming”

Van de 4.014 die overbleven zei het grootste deel: “De mens speelt een rol.”

En “speelt een rol” is uiteraard niet hetzelfde als: “is de grootste oorzaak.”🎯

Toch werden alle studies die ‘enige menselijke invloed’ erkenden samen gecategoriseerd als “endorsement”. 🤦‍♂️

In de communicatie werd dat vervolgens omgezet naar:
“97% zegt dat mensen dé oorzaak zijn.”

Ter info: het ging daarbij om deze cijfers uit Cook et al. (2013):
-64 van 11.944 (0,53%) werden gecodeerd als: mensen veroorzaken >50% van de opwarming.
-41 van 11.944 (0,34%) formuleerden dat expliciet sinds 1950.

Dus:
✅ Slechts 0,3–0,5% van alle onderzochte studies formuleerde expliciet dat de mens meer dan 50% van de recente opwarming veroorzaakt.

Het bekende 97%-cijfer werd berekend binnen de subset van studies die een positie innamen over menselijke invloed, niet op alle 11.944.

En dat is geen rekenfout.
Dat is misleiding, geen wetenschap.

De meeste mensen begrijpen niets van inflatie. Het enige verband wat ze weten te leggen met 'inflatie' is dat 'alles duurder wordt'.

Media en regering voeren een groot scala van redenen en oorzaken aan om te duiden waar die stijging door komt. Klimaat, inhalige bedrijven, Poetin, Iran, Trump... maar nooit wordt de echte reden genoemd: geldcreatie via de geldprinter.

En dat is gewoon beleid. Alles wat ze niet met zichtbare belastingen kunnen belasten wordt afgewenteld op de tweede vorm van belasting: de onzichtbare belasting.

Want inflatie is gewoon een extra vorm van belasting.

Maar het grootste misverstand onder de bevolking over inflatie is waarschijnlijk wel dat dalende inflatie geen dalende prijzen zijn. Prijzen blijven stijgen, hetzij tijdelijk iets minder hard.

En dat punt, dat dalende inflatie alsnog stijging is, dat wil er maar niet in bij de meesten.
