NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says the total investment by the Friedkin family for an NHL team in either Houston or Austin would be $3.5 billion. That includes an expansion fee and cost of building an arena. Bettman declined to say how much for each. More to come at @SBJ.

Gary Bettman says they’ve been in discussion with the Friedkin family for two years on exploring potential expansion in Houston or Austin. Both cities would require new arena. The NHL will decide over time whether or not to move forward as they explore it and in which market.
