@ChiSpecialEd It may be partly because ES is predominantly women. But don’t discount the amount of time spent grading for HS classes, especially upper level IB. Unit tests that take 2 hr per class and internal assessments that take 20 minutes apiece (times 50). Not enough paid time to grade.
@CTUSpecialEd That's not exactly true. The missed prep used for teaching is suppose to be made up before or after school. It is reflected in the teacher's work schedule on Kronos. And what are these proctoring days? Worked in HS for 20 years and never heard of proctoring pay...
"We surveyed 100 math teachers. Top 6 answers on the board. What's the first thing someone says when you tell them you're a math teacher?"
What would you say?
Got a 2.4 GPA my first semester in college. Thought maybe I wasn’t cut out for engineering. Today I’ve landed two spacecraft on Mars, and am now designing one for the Moon.
STEM is hard for everyone. Grades ultimately aren’t what matter. Curiosity and perseverance matter.
"There's a mindset that, 'If they don't turn it in on time, I don't accept it. That's setting them up to fail in college.' Our approach has been, 'OK, but they're not in college yet. Right now they're freshmen. We have to build that scaffolding to support them.'" @phillipcantor
