@devi_agivvra@SteamySnuggler@minamortem when you're talking about Edgar Allen Poe and Sylvia Plath etc, you're talking about romantics. Yes, some goths took influence from them in style perhaps, but they were not a subculture referred to as Goths like the music subculture that originated from post-punk.
@devi_agivvra@SteamySnuggler@minamortem The one way to be goth is to simply enjoy goth rock music.. we're not talking about ancient tribes, or gothic historical themes.. we're talking about goths which originated from post-punk. But you're right, posing is an interesting thing.. I don't understand it.
@devi_agivvra@SteamySnuggler@minamortem Being goth is about liking goth rock music, that's what it will always be. Not e-girls dressing up in shein clad outfits, or overly political Americans with tattoos and piercings telling you what you should vote. It's always about the music, it's a British subculture.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem Goth is it's own subculture, it derived from Punk and didn't adopt all the same principles (like the need for political activism). I see a lot of goth larping e-girls wearing Type O Negative shirts screaming about abortion rights, Peter Steele was a right winger against abortion.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem See, you don't look like a goth, but you like goth music.. if you like the goth music, you're a goth. It's as simple as that.. doesn't matter what your political views are, how you dress or how you act.. as long as you dig goth music, that's goth.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem Well then why did you get defensive against me? I simply said being a goth is about liking goth music, and you started calling me out saying I'm tarnishing the subculture and don't know goth music, it made no sense.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem I do go to Goth clubs. I'm from London, where Goth originates from.. so we don't have that American ideology where over there you guys take British subcultures and try make it super political or your own thing.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem Do you even go to goth clubs? Accusing me of not knowing goth music and saying I tarnish the subculture for defending that goth was about the music and not solely about political opinions or fashion is so baffling. You're a gamer with no idea.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem I tarnish it? I've probably been to more goth clubs/concerts in London than you've left your house. I love post-punk, I love punk too.. but I'm also defending that goth isn't about politics/style, it's about the music.
If you knew any goths, you'd be surprised. You're a gamer.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem If I wasn't into goth music, why would I be defending it? I'm defending goth music against liberal Americans who think everything needs to fit their agenda and pervert porn-brains who thinks it's about a look to fit their weird fetish.
Goth is about the music, always.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem Obviously I know this, you're missing my point.. people mix goth up with punk and think goth is about style or being political. Goth was a subculture that derived from Punk, but it wasn't a style or political.. it was about liking goth music. The dark style was a choice.
@Equil_Nox@Sthormyy@minamortem ''Literally one of the only few people in the replies who's actually got it right.'' you're not even a goth.. you had no idea that Goth was about the music and thought it was political, that's Punk.. and now you're being sexually inappropriate to girls in the reply section.
@SpaceTamale7@autumnhtxxx@Equil_Nox@minamortem Truth. A fascinating update is that the guy claiming goth is about the ''look'' and not the ''music'' is being sexually inappropriate to women in the replies, which kind of confirms he's a fetishist with a rotted porn brain who has no idea what goth is.

@Sthormyy@minamortem Literally one of the only few people in the replies who's actually got it right. Also you're fine as fuck and I'd absolutely rail you into oblivion, that's all, have a great day.
@ribbonfix_@SteamySnuggler@minamortem I'm aware, but surprisingly I'm having people respond to my posts telling me goth is about politics & fashion despite it being about music, I think they confuse it for punk which stemmed from anger at a left-wing government in Britain, and later a right-wing government.
@Equil_Nox@minamortem I'm not.. the goth subculture IS the one thing, which is the music.
You're putting it in the box of a fashion choice mixed with whatever politics you want people to agree with you on, if they don't, I imagine you won't consider them ''goth'' despite you not listening to goth.
@SpaceTamale7@Equil_Nox@minamortem I find that most of these people who fight online about goth being strictly a style are overly political Americans who have never been to a goth club. No different to the ''Goth GF'' guys who have no idea.
If you like Goth music, you're a goth.. style & politics don't matter.
@Equil_Nox@minamortem You're thinking of Punk. Goth is a British subculture that came from liking music, those who liked it were goths and naturally the sound is dark. The dark horror/victorian look was a choice popularized by early Goth bands, but it wasn't necessary to be a goth, it's a choice.
@SpaceTamale7@autumnhtxxx@Equil_Nox@minamortem My response wasn't personal, it's just interesting how many disconnect the music of goth to the ''look'' that has become popular.. punk was a fashion, goth is not.. the look was always a choice. It seems to be Americans that do this for some reason and want everything political.
@autumnhtxxx@Equil_Nox@minamortem The correct take by who exactly? Goth was always about liking goth music.. go watch any goth concert in the 80s and the fashion is a choice and always has been, it's a large part of goth, but it's not necessary to be a goth. You're disconnecting the music to the popular look.
