#Healthsystems can play an integral role to support building structures, standardizing processes and empowering #Infectionprevention programs to achieve optimal outcomes- Welcome to the ten pillars! @lksturm @Ascensionorg
From @thequalitydoc; @lksturm: Read “Ten Pillars for the Expansion of Health System Infection Prevention Capacity” to learn strategies on how to combine yet support infection prevention more effectively. https://t.co/rzCD6E9ChJ
🔥🔥🔥Important work in @JAMANetworkOpen! We found inpatients with ASB rarely had bacteremia--pts w/altered mental status and NO systemic signs of infection had <<1% risk. Really drives home that work up of other causes of altered mentation is key, rather than anchoring on UTI

As valuable to our success is that we all worked together to make it happen. So proud of all the teams from frontline to leaders that made all the difference. We achieved significant improvements in #mortality and #HAIs
Great work @Ascensionorg . The structured multidisciplinary work with the patient at its center, the hardwiring of highly reliable processes in our clinical care, and using actionable data to continuously improve have led to enhanced patient outcomes.
Drs. Mohamad Fakih and Richard Fogel explain how the 'Recognize and Rescue' approach resulted in lifesaving outcomes in a publication by @TheCHAUSA: https://t.co/MoJLqGbkNF
Honored to be included on this year’s Becker’s Healthcare 55 “patients safety experts to know” list. Ensuring highly reliable processes, and partnering together as teams result in optimal outcomes and lead to safer environment @Ascensionorg .

Systems help support Infection Prevention programs building capacity, standardizing processes, and promoting Infection Prevention as a Priority #SHEASpring2023@TheQualityDoc
Proud to be part of the team at Ascension that will be working on the implementation of evidence based care @PCORI . Multidisciplinary partnership and co-leading with Ellen Fineout-Overholt, PhD @Ascensionorg
Ascension is one of 42 health systems nationwide selected by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to participate in an initiative to advance the use of evidence-based care. Learn more: https://t.co/09TMJLTjFR
Excellent piece in @BeckersHR from @Ascensionorg Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Rich Fogel on how Ascension is putting patient quality and safety first:

Great work @Ascensionorg led by Drs Mupanomunda and Masoudi evaluating Severe Maternal Morbidities Associated With Specific SARS-CoV-2 Variants. All variants increase risk, particularly delta. Underscores the importance of vaccination to this population https://t.co/aqZpR3P5wx
The updated CLABSI recommendations categorize interventions as essential (to be implemented) and additional (for specific populations or if not reaching goal). It also details process and outcome measures to evaluate progress to reach goals @ICHEJournal https://t.co/NJ68tpGTKo
Great article addressing freeing up processes from barriers or elements that impede adoption. The concrete examples reflect the importance of process evaluation and strong impact that removing #sludge removal has on outcomes. @miteshspatel@BYehia@Ascensionorg
Health care is hard for patients to manage. How can we remove #Sludge to improve patient experience & care? New @HarvardBiz article out today with @BYehia & J. Cacchione highlighting 4 lessons learned from our work @Ascensionorg Check the article here: https://t.co/OzvLYzjBJ6
Important data on hospital onset blood stream infections (HOBSI) in the #COVID19 pandemic. COVID-19 infected: higher invasive bloodstream infections, underscoring their risk and severity of illness. HOBSI is electronically captured, and sensitive to changes in population.
For the future, a key element to reduce transmission of pathogens is to engineer settings that lower transmission risk rather than rely on population compliance with masking/testing. Most transmission occurs in closed places; it costs us more and affects energy efficiency.
#COVID19 cases continue to average 100-150k/ day. Our vaccination rate is increasing though not optimal. 54% of those >65 years of age had boosters. My fear is that we are still using testing as the "logical" process to address COVID19, but the virus is adjusting faster than us.
Testing is important, but with upcoming Omicron and high infectivity rates, we may want to focus on measures providing the highest ROI with the least disruption. Optimized ventilation, vaccination, and universal masking in public areas.
