The dream of riding in a driverless vehicle has become a reality. The similarities to a future of finance are hard to ignore. Just like for cars, there will be levels of financial autonomy. I lay them out here in the 6 Levels of Autonomous Finance:

Did you know the Fed's 2% inflation target had little mathematical basis? It really was just a guess! Macro + Fintech update below where I look at why the Fed's job got much harder in February:

Super excited for our recent investment to officially launch! @FWD_platform assists governments with public fund distribution and could not be more aligned with @TheRealCoreVC's belief that you can build massively impactful and valuable companies at the same time

I put my interest rates trading hat back on to digest what the market is telling us and how higher rates affect fintech and crypto startups. Despite the grim news you read about on twitter, there are some bright spots! Thoughts?

The inflation print outpaced expectations (7.5%), while the Fed’s Bullard suggested a 50bp rise in March or even a surprise hike earlier. What that means for tech stocks, and fintech included, is that we may not have seen the lows yet.

1/ After doing weekly #fintech threads and intimately monitoring the industry as an investor, I’d figure I’d do a wrap of my take aways and the big happenings for 2021. It's hard to be comprehensive with so much that happened, so help me fill in the gaps, what did I miss?

In January, Jamie Dimon said he was “scared sh*tless” of fintech rivals. While it seemed like he was late to the party, perhaps it was actually just getting started. In H1 2021, fintech fundings outpaced any FULL year on record. Sheeesh!

Weekly recap (so. many. deals.)👇

[David Roos @roosontheloos]

Imagine competing with a company that automates your core service, offers it for free, and then you botch the response so badly that you pay $200m in SEC fines. That’s what happened to Schwab in roboadvisory.
