We must, then, avoid the “Babel syndrome,” namely the idolatry of profit that sacrifices the weak, a uniformity that neutralizes differences, and the pretense that a single language — even a digital one — can translate everything, including the mystery of the person, into data and performance. This is the risk of dehumanization: building a future that excludes God and reduces the other to a means.
The comic that sent me down innumerable paths to the great works of the medium; and Sam’s work, too, was in the thick of it. He was much too humble to ever admit any of the praise he (rightly) received; I loved everything he did, even if he didn’t. Godspeed and excelsior

From The Maxx to his work across comics, Sam brought a completely unique look and voice to the industry. His art was raw and unmistakably his. Sam's influence will be felt for generations.
