Ahhh so the oil imminently at risk of spilling out of me and into the Red Sea is owned by the world's largest oil companies?
And none of them contributed to the UN cleanup operation fund??
The greed of oil giants knows no bounds. Oil companies are making huge profits on the backs of vulnerable communities in the Global South, with little regard for their lives and the environment.

It's great news for sure.
But to use an American football metaphor:
This is only a first down, not a touchdown. We aren't even in the red zone yet!

"There is a skeleton crew aboard the #FSOSafer, a small crew of people that are bravely trying to make sure that it keeps going as much as possible. But the reality is that it is sitting there corroding, it might leak/break up tomorrow, last a few weeks or a few months" @Droubi
Given that you declared profits of over $10 billion USD in both Q1 2022 and Q2 2022, a few million dollars would be nothing more than a rounding error.
Looking forward to seeing your donation receipts!

Hey @TotalEnergies ! I see in the Greenpeace report on the FSO Safer that you expressed a "willingness to make a financial contribution to the UN-led salvage
operation of the FSO SAFER."
So, how much money has @TotalEnergies pledged to contribute so far?

Global oil companies abandon their oil on a corroding tanker (me!) off the coast of Yemen and then rely on the rest of the world to spend public monies to avert a ticking time bomb that the oil companies themselves left behind. Absurd!
The #FSOSafer has been anchored in the #RedSea with no insurance and no maintenance since 2015.
On board are over 1.14 million barrels of crude oil 😱

A powerful report released by Greenpeace reveals that global oil companies with records profits are behind the oil stored on the #FSOsafer
Don't let the oil companies get away with abandoning me and making the rest of us clean up their mess!
These children are angels!
But it's absurd and depressing that these elementary school children in Maryland took my danger more seriously than absurdly rich petrostates and other powerful members of the international community.

We thank all those who supported the @UN’s plan to address the issue of #FSOSafer. With pledges from the Netherlands 🇳🇱, Germany 🇩🇪, USA 🇺🇸, Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦, UK 🇬🇧 and many others, the gap in funding for the emergency plan is now complete.
Let us now begin this urgent work!
The @UNOCHA announced yesterday that the salvage of the supertanker FSO Safer can now begin. #KSA has played a key role in being a part of the project by pledging $10 million to the relief project in order to protect the area from a massive oil spill.

I aint celebrating until all the promised money comes through and the oil is taken out of me. Too many things could go wrong between now and then.

The #United_Nations official leading the organization’s efforts on the #FSOSafer said that donors have generously pledged all of the $75 million required for the emergency operation to transfer oil from the decaying supertanker to a safe vessel.

Daaaang, I look good in this photo. Can't see any of my rusted and corroded seams that will burst any minute now!
But my figure will look even better once they lipo the million barrels out of my guts.
Hurry up and turn those pledges into cash!

Good news!
Donors have now generously pledged all of the $75 million required for the emergency operation to transfer oil from the decaying supertanker FSO Safer, off the coast of #Yemen, to a safe vessel.

Thanks @arabnews for putting me on the map! Literally!
I'm strategically placed to cause a complete shut down of the Red Sea shipping channel if I end up spilling my guts. Any day now!

This is undoubtedly great news, but @UN_News_Centre also buries the lead:
The work can only begin "once the $75m pledged for phase one is secured"
Just as much activism and pressure as was needed to earn the pledges is necessary to ensure funds are disbursed
#FSOSafer#Yemen
In a milestone announcement, the UN says that work to avoid a $20 billion clean up bill by securing oil stored in a stricken tanker of the #Yemen coast, can begin, once the $75m pledged for phase one is secured #FSOSafer@UNinYE

FEATURED: @washingtonpost "Save the Children urged the international community to treat the tanker as “an international emergency.”
