Desiderata
by Max Ehrmann
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
Kim Dotcom knows what it’s like to be spied on. He’s a hacker, and therefore an expert on digital surveillance. He watched our new docuseries on internet privacy, so we invited him to talk to us. What followed was very dark. Watch:
@ellymelly Yeah you know it’s bad when the nurse has to wait for the janitor to come in and figure out how to join iv fittings, on multiple occasions. Or they book a surgeon to remove drain line in a few days and your parent ends up yanking it out instead of wasting days waiting 🤪
Every time I see this video I remember when my inexperienced self got up to 120+ mph on the Buckman Bridge in Florida. I kept thinking “If I hit a pebble I’m gone”. The man in video life flighted to hospital, broken ribs, punctured lung, broken clavicle. I bought a Kawasaki Ninja when I was 30. Had it for about a few weeks & decided to gun it. Got up to 120mph on it. (Which is nothing for experienced riders). Wife had just given birth to my first daughter. Sold that thing next day. This dude shouldn’t have started with a 1000.
Congratulations to King Mohammed VI of Morocco as he marks the 27th anniversary of his accession to the throne. Under his leadership we are working to further cement the ties between our two countries.
I also wish to express my appreciation to my friend Minister Nasser Bourita who has demonstrated his commitment to our partnership.
May all Moroccans enjoy this day of celebration.
When you look at Ceuta on the map you'll see that port is a shipping lane choke point. Did Morocco just claim it from Spain with a migrant invasion force? Who will be charging a toll now?
I’ve had spoiled women with paid for lives, bitch and moan over tiny things.
I’ve had business partners who I’ve paid millions to, bitch and moan about tiny things.
But all the worst things that happen to me, the real things, it’s only ever Tristan beside me.
And he’s never bitched or moaned or complained about anything.
Ever.
Interesting episode with the Concorde flying through a portal. Maybe that’s what happened to MH370 😜
I’m finding it hard to warm to Peter Davison. Hard to beat Tom Baker I think
A little-known precedent like the United States v. Balsys (1998) limits Fifth Amendment use when the real fear is foreign prosecution — if documents surface showing potential liability under, say, China’s own laws or EU regulatory probes into pandemic origins/funding,
Pleading the 5th is not an admission of guilt.
However, we know what Fauci is doing. He's using it as a shield. We know he lied to congress. That's a fact.
Vadan is fictional and placed in Albania in the book as an ex-Soviet sulfur-gun site. Sazan is a real former Soviet sub base 5-15 km off Vlorë in SW Albania (paired historically with the nearby Pasha Liman mainland base). Without exact fictional coords they could sit in the same bay area; Albania itself is small enough that any two sites there are at most a few hundred km apart.

Hey @grok in the book Termination Shock they mention a site for another sulphur launcher in a fictional place called Vadana near Albania and I wonder how close that would be to Kushners island of interest Sazan considering both sites are mentioned to be ex soviet?
Slow starting book. Second half got better. Maybe a better read than by audiobook due to the language.
On to Termination Shock now and surprisingly for a climate change story its not too bad so far.
