This is a journalistic disgrace. A disgrace.

Jury service is a sacrifice that many of us attempt to avoid. But jurors are essential, and neither the American criminal nor civil justice system can function without them. Moreover, the jury system provides a powerful protection for the criminally accused, as unanimity among jurors of diverse backgrounds and experiences is difficult to achieve. Holdout jurors are a feature of the American jury system, not a bug.

For a media outlet—specifically Boston NBC 10—to expose the personal life of a private person merely because that individual honorably performed his civic duty and devoted weeks of his life to jury service is shameful.

Who in their right mind will appear for jury service if they know they can be publicly humiliated and dragged just because some media outlet or finger-wagging mob believes they voted the “wrong” way? This disgraceful “reporting” by Boston NBC 10 is an attack on the foundation of the American justice system itself. Shame.

@cathyrusson We are still within the 14-day period, and with the way things have gone sideways at a rapid pace, I would expect the judge to keep the names sealed for their safety. Wjat is being done to this juror sets a dangerous precedent.
