Imagine putting in your life’s blood to become one of the major reasons late 80’s & 90’s kids got into reading (outside of the classroom) just for your name to be dragged through the mud 2 decades later. I’ve only ever read two Peggy Oppong books … The Masquerader & Julia’s Dance (which I followed in the graphic), I can’t even remember what her writing was like but I know I enjoyed them and I sure as hell won’t disrespect her legacy just because there were better writers (there’s always a better writer) … Mind you, I read abridged versions of Shakespeare plays before I even knew who she was. Just because you have Netflix now doesn’t mean Nollywood didn’t birth legends … adey beg, give Auntie Peggy Oppong her props and honour her by being 2x the writer(s) you wanted her to be.
