The greatest thing SpaceX ever made was 1000s of ex-SpaceX engineers. There was no reservoir of "engineers" sitting around who "really did the work". There were a handful of ex-NASA & ex-defense gen-Xers who survived the post-Cold War "peace dividend".

None of their operational & epistemic knowledge--everything that separates a textbook from hardware--would have survived another generation without SpaceX existing to foster the knowledge concentration and transfer.
