Child abuse prevention depends on how adults respond. Children don't have the power to stop abuse on their own. The responsibility belongs to the adults around them. When concerns are minimized, dismissed, or delayed, children can be left without the support and protection they need. Prevention is not only about recognizing warning signs. It is also about choosing to listen, take action, and prioritize a child’s wellbeing over discomfort.
The way we talk about child abuse can either protect children or protect harmful behavior. Minimizing, dismissing, or explaining away concerns can prevent children from being heard and taken seriously. Words matter, and so does how we respond. Child Abuse Prevention Month is a reminder to listen, take concerns seriously, and create environments where children feel safe to speak and be believed.
“I didn’t know how to say no.” is a reality for many survivors.
Consent is not just the presence of a “yes.” It requires the ability to freely choose without fear, pressure, or manipulation. When someone feels unsafe, intimidated, or obligated to comply, that is not consent. Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month is a reminder to deepen our understanding of consent, and the role education plays in prevention and support.
When people think about child abuse, they often picture something obvious. Visible injuries. Clear cries for help. Signs that feel impossible to miss. But the reality is much harder to see. Many children never disclose abuse while it is happening. Not because it isn’t severe, but because they may feel afraid, confused, loyal to the person harming them, or unsure how to put their experience into words. In many cases, the person responsible is someone they know, trust, or depend on.
Child Abuse Prevention Month is a reminder that we cannot rely on obvious signs alone. Prevention starts with awareness, education, and creating safe environments where children are believed, protected, and supported. Because “no signs” should never be mistaken for “no abuse.”

When consent is misunderstood, it can be used as a tool for harm. Understanding where consent ends is a critical step toward recognizing exploitation and preventing trafficking. Strong relationships require strong communication — and that includes conflict.
In this episode, we explore how healthy conflict, clear boundaries, and thoughtful apologies strengthen trust in relationships, families, and leadership spaces. We also discuss the importance of teaching consent and self-advocacy early, so the next generation is equipped to communicate with confidence and respect.
Resilience is built through hard conversations — not avoided by them.
