Baseball analysis backed by statcast tools & visualizations. Letting the data lead -- and knowing when it misleads. Writer for @PitcherList | The Seam ⬇️
In an era where everyone's chasing slug, the #Rays are chasing chaos.
Baserunning + contact are the foundations of their offense, but can that succeed against quality and/or experienced pitchers they'll see in October?

This was a fun player to analyze. I still think there's a productive pitcher given his current arsenal, but he needs to adjust his usage.
For the #Phillies sake, hopefully he's back this season
Will Orsland (@TheSeamBaseball) breaks down key adjustments Andrew Painter can make that will not only expedite his return to the Phillies' rotation, but also maximize his potential as a big league contributor this season.

Personally, I'd go with Holmes; he has higher strikeout upside, and the Padres' offense is abysmal. The Giants' offense has been better recently, and did just give Holmes trouble in a rain-shortened start, but Keller's walks + diminishing stuff are too concerning to me right now
Today's tunneling card from the tool I developed: Gerrit Cole
Stats are going to be primarily driven from his 2024 season due ot injury, it'll be interesting to see how this looks once we have more data from 2026 #RepBx
Will Orsland (@TheSeamBaseball) breaks down Week 13's two-start starters into four tiers and highlights one pitcher as his two-start streamer of the week.

Schlittler challenges hitters with his fastball, and keeps that curveball that tunnels so nicely with his four-seamer and cutter in his back pocket.
Today's player card from the tunnel tool: #Yankees phenom Cam Schlittler #RepBX
Today's tool-generated player card from my tunneling tool: Shane Baz of the #Orioles
None of the geometry is elite (Track A > 75), but the changeup to set up the fastball is interesting...potentially could follow that up with the knucklecurve?
Called strikes don't correlate with K% while swinging strikes do
This makes a high K% for a called strike guy, like Nolan McLean, harder to believe in for the future
The plots are pretty stark:

Just released my massive top 50 pitching prospect post this morning on my Substack ($).
~10k words, a bunch of data, and cool visuals like the ones below for EVERY arm.
Labor of love. I'm confident it's some of the most detailed analysis out there from a data POV! 🫡
@PitchingNinja Bush league... There are two outs, it wouldn't be acceptable even if it were a double play situation, and it looks even worse when you're down 8-1
Today's Player-generated card from my Tunneling tool is Jacob DeGrom.
The fastball and slider combination is so good, I can't help but think it helps his other sequences play up, especially when he mixes his changeup/curveball consecutively.
The Slider/Fastball being so good in a vacuum as well has to hurt the model's rankings of the pair...
Looking at Kumar Rocker's tunneling in the new tool I created.
I still need to add the handedness split; his stuff is below average per Stuff+, so being able to maximize his sequencing is critical to his success
Track B reflects results, while Track A looks at geometry. A Track B notably lower than Track A implies there's room for improvement
Michael Busch has made some nice scoops this game to help out Shota. One just now on a pickoff attempt and earlier on a tough soft roller up the first base line that saw Shota make an incredibly athletic play
