@BarristerSecret You do surprise me @BarristerSecret Mags Courts vary from sitting DJs DDJs, Benches, the chaos is from behind the scenes funding reductions over which benches have no control. I'd focus on increases in jail times & appeals hence gains may not come @DominicRaab @TheSecretMagis2

The "chaos" is symptomatic of the broken CJS system & lack of resource rather than the calibre of mags. I honestly do not recognise mags as described by you, they're not the ones I have sat with for the past few years who are bright, well trained, objective & skilled @MagsAssoc

Magistrates’ courts, presided over by volunteers with no legal training, are run in conditions of chaos. They are by any measure a lesser form of justice.

@DouglasLloydUK I think the word used was unfortunate & perhaps reflects relief at the end of the gruelling battle to win this argument. Locking up people is the last resort & the last thing every sensible mag wants to do. There's a rigorous process to go through before doing so & rightly so.

@Alderwick @MagsAssoc @Telegraph I have written about this before & stated that should we be given increased sentencing powers then mags would be willing and fully capable of taking up the slack & as per normal acting sensibly & consistently within the guidelines. Most lawyers totally disagree! @MagsAssoc
