An inner city magistrate with strong views about our role & need to adapt to stay relevant in today’s CJS. “The Secret Magistrate” is available now on Amazon.
My new book on the magistracy, "The Secret Magistrate" discusses what we do, how we do it & whether we need to adapt in order to remain fit for purpose. Available now on Amazon https://t.co/vmRfPRoZvl

@trouble_rosie82 Thank you, I am so glad you enjoyed it. If you have time would you possibly be able to leave a review on Amazon? Many thanks if you can.
@KarenLNHollis Last book read was The Secret Magistrate by @TheSecretMagis2; just about to start Hope and Happiness in Bluebell Wood by @AliMcNamara. Just finished listening to Treachery at Hursley Park Hall by Claire Gradidge and just started listening to The Locked Room by @ellygriffiths
London needs more Magistrates from all our diverse communities & backgrounds. Have you thought about applying to be one - if you are over 18 you're almost certainly eligible. It's a fascinating, challenging & very worthwhile role.

@BarristerSecret You do surprise me @BarristerSecret Mags Courts vary from sitting DJs DDJs, Benches, the chaos is from behind the scenes funding reductions over which benches have no control. I'd focus on increases in jail times & appeals hence gains may not come @DominicRaab@TheSecretMagis2
There's a lot of mud & hoary old, outdated tropes being thrown out about mags today, @BarristerSecret is the absolute oracle about so much in the CJS but they are wrong about mags. Please take a look at this for perhaps a more balanced & objective view https://t.co/S1qLXxQlq4
The "chaos" is symptomatic of the broken CJS system & lack of resource rather than the calibre of mags. I honestly do not recognise mags as described by you, they're not the ones I have sat with for the past few years who are bright, well trained, objective & skilled @MagsAssoc
Magistrates’ courts, presided over by volunteers with no legal training, are run in conditions of chaos. They are by any measure a lesser form of justice.
Rather than fund the system properly, the government wants more cases heard in these conditions. https://t.co/MrXbyaYSfE
You might want to read this for perhaps a different, more objective & balanced view of how mags conduct themselves, their commonsense, objectivity & the rigorous training they undergo @MagsAssoc
Most people have no idea how criminal trials are prosecuted in the magistrates’ courts.
Here is the reality. This is the government’s desired model of criminal justice.
If you were a victim of crime or accused of a crime, would this be good enough for you?
@DouglasLloydUK I think the word used was unfortunate & perhaps reflects relief at the end of the gruelling battle to win this argument. Locking up people is the last resort & the last thing every sensible mag wants to do. There's a rigorous process to go through before doing so & rightly so.

We are recruiting new Magistrates across London throughout January. Have you thought of applying - almost everyone over 18 is eligible. No experience is needed. You will receive full training. https://t.co/LohEkKDzaH
@Alderwick@MagsAssoc@Telegraph I have written about this before & stated that should we be given increased sentencing powers then mags would be willing and fully capable of taking up the slack & as per normal acting sensibly & consistently within the guidelines. Most lawyers totally disagree! @MagsAssoc
Smiled to see @TheSecretMagis2 was one of the #books mentioned in an article in GQ, (Sept issue) about the recent trend for insider, anonymous books that spill-the-beans about life in various professions.
