@UnchainedHt@thosethatcan@Headteacherchat Sometimes half term gives you the thinking space and courage to hand in your notice and leave a setting that’s no longer right for you.
@ModestTeacher I went to secondary school in the mid 2000s, phones and internet were about, but no one replied on them, phones were not used in school, with the exception of MP3 players in some lessons. The school was calm, behaviour seemed good, and great memories were made.
@FixingEducation In mocks and in class assessments I’ve always just given a percentage. Focusing on the content, and what needs to improve rather than giving a grade. For some students who have got a 4, that will be ‘enough’ and therefore disengage because ‘they’ve got what they need’.
@BBCNews Surely reducing by approx. 7 hours a day by not using them is a good starting point. That’s a rough reduction of 1365 hours across the school year..
@FixingEducation I think I was a mug, but I rarely had a lunch break, with lunch duty then lunch issues spilling over into what was supposed to be my lunch break..
@sarah_j_d_34 With this £4bn the government has announced to fund provision in mainstream, they should develop some special schools. This is just Google, but it’s about £1mil to develop a special school, with the £4bn that’s 4000 addition special schools across the country. Just saying…
Forget all this wishy washy stuff, the focus needs to be on what schools really need, which is:
- Teachers that feel valued
- Fully resourced schools, less cuts
- Sustained funding
- Adequate support and backing
Stop sugar coating the sector!

The government is expected to call for all schools to be part of a trust in its White Paper on Monday, Tes understands. @JohnGRoberts has the full story on this – and other key proposals trailed by the DfE – here ⬇️

@Headteacherchat Not much help, but we’ve always been told that ‘it’s gone well’, with some highlights, but the grade hasn’t been disclosed straightaway.
@edtechmathteach I think it comes down to knowing your students too. Taking some time to read student passports, and building a positive and safe learning environment where students feel safe to get things wrong. As someone commented, mini whiteboards all day long.
Recently I ran a poll, asking people what there priorities are this term. The results snuggest wellbeing is at the top. I have put 10 wellbeing ideas together.
