People who think taxing the rich is the solution to our problems haven't done the math. With our current deficit, if we taxed 100% of net worth, starting from the richest, we'll wipe out the Forbes 400 list in under 3 years. Who's picking up the bill THEN?
@BladeoftheS It's not invented so much as mathematically inevitable. WIth a 0% or 100% tax rate, revenue would indeed be zero.
However, the SHAPE of the curve in between is unknown. Every graph that represents it as a smooth curve with no inflection points is reductive.
@markv4986024316@LDS_Dems It's simple really -- all they have to do is amend the bill to allow for proof of name change. That solves the married women argument. As for the cost, if getting a copy of a birth certificate should be free, folks should take that up with their local government.
@AngryFleas Correct. They used the word "citizen" very intentionally, 22 times in the Constitution, versus 58 times they uses derivations of "person" (person, persons, people). If they meant for them to mean the same thing, they'd have used the same words.
@libertarian_ass@AngryFleas And yet the word citizen appears 22 times in the constitution, and person or people 58 times. It's almost like the founders chose which word they used intentionally.
@nettermike No, but I think it's an unexcused absence and teachers should provide zero accomodation to such students.
Whoops, you skipped class on a day where we had a quiz. Guess you're getting a zero.
@KellyScaletta The difference is that the right to vote is protected for "citizens. The right to keep and bear arms is protected for "the people". That's why proving citizenship doesn't make sense for gun ownership.
@JamesTate121 If people actually were required to buy a passport to vote, this might be relevant.
But they aren't.
Passport is one of SEVERAL options to prove citizenship.
@tjgorton@valkyriesrwomen@JamieBonkiewicz LOL. Voting is a choice too, and in case you didn't realize it, our independence from King George was reliant on firearms, so yeah, they kind of do decide the future of countries.
@JamesTate121 It's like saying we're still the commander in chief, and the secretaries of the navy, army, and air force, but no longer commanding three military bases.
LOL.
@JamesTate121 The US handed three more tactical commands in the UK, Italy, and the Netherlands to the UK, Italy, and Germany/Poland.
The US retains overall command and command continent-wide.
But fuck research, right?
@JamesTate121 Another way to read it is that command of the alliance whose primary purpose is to defend Europe will be handled by Europeans.
I don't see the problem here.
