Honestly, the more I think about this, the more irritated I get.

I've been reflecting a lot lately on the impotence of truth.

Like most people of my generation, I grew up believing that "the truth will set you free." You just had to expose what the bad guys were doing so the public could see it, and then everything would change.

I wrote the article below in 2017, exposing multiple angles of the way the new Paglia-led Pontifical Academy for Life was set to undermine everything the Church taught about human life and sexual ethics. We published multiple articles about what a grotesque figure Paglia was. He even had himself painted into a homoerotic mural in the Cathedral of Terni-Narni-Amelia.

And now, 9 years later, I see @BishopBarron warning about how "the changes [Paglia] made at the Institute during the Pope Francis years were designed to initiate a 'very profound' reform of the idea of the natural law."

I'm glad he's warning about it. He should. But what took so long? Why is it so hard to move the needle? Why is it that you can point to what's going on, sitting in plain sight, and nobody wants to see it? And what will come of his warning now that it's finally happened?

Why did 1P5 do so much damage to my faith? Because I realized that nobody was at the wheel. God wasn't doing any visible thing to protect the Church, his bride, from the corrupt men he had allowed to run it. There were no real heroes in the episcopacy rising up to combat it, just a couple of lone voices who had no real power, and were ultimately still under obedience. The faith I'd spent my whole life believing was inviolate because God himself was keeping it safe was being violated every day, not by outside enemies, but by the successors to the apostles themselves. And after watching boundaries get crossed, year after year, I could not reassure myself or anyone else that it would ever get better.

My faith was under assault for other reasons too, but the crystal clear understanding that the people trying hardest to keep the faith had been completely abandoned was a real beach head.
