@SigmundBloom If he doesn’t throw a stink about losing the job, it benefits the Vikings more to hold onto him… likely he’d see the field at some point and 0 QBs under contract for ‘27
@WillRagatz Load up on D… would love to see any of these:
CB: McCoy, Hood, Ponds, Cisse, Terrell
LB: Hill, Rodriguez, Allen
S: EMW, Stukes, Haulcy
Doubling up on the DL shouldn’t be out of the question. Worry about C, RB, WR later on
Hoping to see 3 of first 4 picks on D. As for tonight:
1) Sadiq. Fun, flashy, and a need. Leans into NFL trend of playing 2-3 TEs. Then go heavy on D
2) Trade Back. Bolster the DL (McDonald, Faulk, Woods)
3) Thieneman. There’s more options later
@thorku@VikingsFan26 What did you want them to do at QB?
I think it’s more likely theyre in your corner on JJ vs giving up. But building him back up is going to feel way over protective, with the best possible long term plan B (Kyler).
It’s malpractice to run it back the way they did last year
@PhilMackey That’d shock me. Why:
-KOC clearly saw enough potential in ‘24 offseason to deem him franchise QB
-Regressed after injuries, having kid, etc.
-Doesn’t want to “fail his young QB “and taking every measure to not rush him back in
-He’s your only QB under contract in ‘27
But you’re likely to see JJ during the year (due to Kyler injury or performance) after a healthy offseason and he:
1) shows improvement and enters ‘27 as a 24-year old a guy who is younger than most rookie QBs in this year’s draft
2) struggles and you know you need to move on
It’s amazing how many people get paid to talk about football and have to be polarizing and say it’s over for @jjmccarthy09
It’s a low probability that Kyler beats out JJ, and proceeds to play all 17 games and goes on a deep playoff run.
If he does, you can’t let Kyler leave
@DomClare@VikesVV I’d be surprised if it’s over. There were clear votes of confidence from KOC until injury or other cause regression
He can compete and sit this year. He’ll be nearly the same age as rookie Nix, Daniels, Burrow, etc. entering ‘27
Optionality for ‘27: Kyler, JJ or draft
@SKORNorth@jzulgad Maybe I’m overly positive on JJ but signing a guy for the vet minimum shouldn’t signal the end of your 23 year old QB.
There was enough positive talk prior to ‘25 that they had their guy. That can’t all be gone
Compete. Get JJ to buy in/stay as back up. Optionality in ‘27.
@KalebNFL I don’t think it’s scared to “upset” versus having him “want out” … it’s clear they still want to develop him and keep him as an option, not put all eggs in Kyler’s basket
@MatthewColler Geno Smith is a good fit in that you hope he’s your backup because JJ has a good offseason. And he’s a good backup.
Kyler would probably beat out JJ and thus end JJ’s time in MN if he plays well. That’s the line they’re trying to walk. Is Kyler good enough to give up on JJ
@WillRagatz It feels like Safety and CB are either more cost effective or addressable in FA or in 2/3rd round… would love to continue to fortify DL with youth: Banks, Woods or Faulk
@TPPSkol There’s not really much to “screw up”. There aren’t a lot of levers to pull, so their best hope is a McCarthy leap, and if not re-invest in 2027.
What’s available are veterans that you hope provide a high floor for one-year if he bottoms out. Kyler is maybe the exception.
@SigmundBloom The Vikings wouldn’t do either of those. JJ was disastrous at times. But also went 6-4, ending on a 4-game winning streak. They’re not dumping him unless they take the big swing. Their best bet is for JJ to take a leap. They’d be stupid to just sign up for QB purgatory again
@thorku I don’t think this is fair. It’s clear he was trying to do everything but rush JJ
Saw development in first offseason, but he was still to sit behind Darnold
Said progress prob stalled or regressed in ‘25 due to injuries
As a result, wanted to re-run ‘24
@PatSieps I don’t think so… there’s a big difference in trading JJ for assets because you deem Darnold the guy, as opposed to just trying to jettison McCarthy without a backup plan
There’s a world where KOC signed off on the actual McCarthy pick, and also believes his injury screwed up their progress for 2025… I always come back to this
@TPPSkol I don’t think he was forced upon him at the draft… KOC declaring him the franchise QB after his meniscus says as much
I think he was forced upon him as the sole option in 2025. It’s clear he wanted another option. Whether it was Darnold, Jones or Rodgers
