@tanpukunokami Samurai, ninja, karate, judo, sumo, bonsai, origami, haiku, kabuki, geisha, kimono, sushi, sakura, Shinto, Zen, and of course anime and manga. Japan is home to an ancient culture as beautiful as it is powerful. What’s to mislike?
This scene is why Breaking Bad is the greatest. Jesse tries to cope with his guilt over murdering a person by confessing to killing a “problem dog.” He’s afraid of facing the consequences of his actions, but even more afraid of living in a meaningless universe where he can commit acts of evil and not be punished. He’s grappling with the deeply human desire for justice and meaning, and all
the group leader can do is offer modern “self-acceptance” therapeutic cliches in response which Jesse recognizes as utterly empty and useless. A scene straight out of a Dostoevsky novel. Jesse’s whole arc towards the end of the show is basically Raskolnikov in Crime and Punishment. Brilliant stuff.
@TheCulturedNerd She drinks alone at bars until blackout. Every alien is throw-up-in-your-mouth ugly. The script is a masterclass in boring and-then-this-happens drivel. Supergirl is as pathetic as this film specifically and James Gunn’s Dead Cinematic Universe generally.
The streaming model, once promising prestige storytelling with limitless vision, has delivered short seasons, chaotic development, filler episodes, and empty mystery boxes. In short, the death of episodic storytelling.
A new report from Luminate has found that long gaps between seasons of streaming TV shows are leading to major losses in viewership.

The whole point of Syril is to demonstrate how totalitarian regimes aren't just enabled by moustache twirling villains, but by good men duped into serving the wrong cause, their morals manipulated and their worldviews critically limited. His final realisation that his whole life had been dedicated to a lie, only to be unceremoniously cut down before he can act on it, was a brilliantly stark reminder of how brutal and uncaring the Empire really was. I'm sorry this was lost on you.
I found HOTD Season 3 no better or worse than any Game of Thrones season, which always includes meandering, filler, and melodrama that occasionally reaches a fever pitch and delivers a shocking ending that made it worth the ride. I sometimes groan, but I loved it anyway.
No one owes a game developer a living. No one owes an artist a living.
A professional artist owes his customers great work and the muse his undying humility.
