Xenoblade Chronicles 2 complete ✅

What a journey. What a game.

Some people had me believing this would be mixed bag, but what I experienced was nothing of the sort.

Not only did I enjoy XC2, but I’m confident in saying I enjoyed it even more than the first entry.

Somehow XC2 was able to iterate and expand on the ideas of the first game to make something just as grand and charming.

I wasn’t expecting to love this story or its characters as much as I did either. A story that brilliantly tackles overcoming nihilism, identity, and cherishing memory that gives life. There’s genuine gravitas there when exploring those themes through this world and our characters within it.

It’s why, after the fact, seeing those remarks that this was nothing but a “anime waifu simulator” has been especially perplexing because that does a massive disservice to how intricate the story and it’s characters actually are in execution.

The only thing I didn’t love about this game was the horrible tutorials, the menu, and the Blade system. At least, in the original version, having to switch out Blades for field skills every time there was a field prompt is just bad design and I’m glad the updated version fixes that.

With Xenoblade Chronicles 2 finished, I’m happy to say I haven’t been disappointed yet and it’s probably the best JRPG franchise on the Nintendo Switch, by far.

Can’t wait to get to the DLC soon!
