20 years of 'D🍩nuts'.
J Dilla's second and final album demonstrated his greatest strength as a producer was his ability to warp and contort samples, making them fit his own narrative.
No album in his catalogue is a better example of this than 'Donuts'. Rest in beats Dilla 🕊️
"'Donuts' is a beat head’s delight: 31 concise, wildly inventive sample-swirls, many of which would end up being sampled themselves in the years that followed."
Why J Dilla's 'Donuts' is one of the Greatest Albums of All Time

@FemiOnDrums as for some favourite samples, they include
You're gonna need me - Dionne Warwick
Only one can win - the Sylvers
All i do is think of you - jackson 5
And if you've not read this, you must! The technical chapter are a delight to nerd out on 💜
@FemiOnDrums so where did it start? Fitting that fruitful period that brought Mamas Gun and Like Water for Chocolate amongst others and realising that Dilla was the golden thread. Things like Didn't Cha know and Thelonius are just sublime. RIP GOAT
@FemiOnDrums PUT ME ON! Week after week of epicness. Can't wait for this. HUGE Dilla fan here. Lots of rarities in the collection and an insatiable thirst for more. Talk to me... What's in the set? Let's have...
Steve Spacek - Dollar
ATCQ - find a way
Badu - didn't Cha know 💜
@FemiOnDrums I was going for the hat trick of retweets from your banging Friday night shows and then you played THAT last track! Shout out to you, The Blessed Madonna and @joyjoyanonymous 🤩
@BowersWilkins hi folks. I've lost my power cable for a rather old zeppelin (it's the lightning charger one) can you put me onto somebody who could supply a new one please?
@FemiOnDrums it's not a theory it's a fact! ?love had said he was in a club in London and if I recall, it was an Anita Baker remix. Check out Camden for the facts x thanks for being a legend x
D’Angelo has passed away at 51 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
A founding father of neo-soul, his music redefined R&B intimate, spiritual, and unapologetically Black.
From Brown Sugar to Voodoo, he gave us art that breathed.
Rest in power, Michael Eugene Archer. 🕊️
It was beautiful to see that Brian Wilson was given the perfect closing chapter to his story.
He was able to do a well deserved victory lap and he could see first hand how much his music was loved
Anyone who really knows me knows how heart broken I am about Brian Wilson passing. Not many people influenced me as much as he did. I feel very lucky that I was able to meet him and spend some time with him. He was always very kind and generous. He was our American Mozart. A one of a kind genius from another world.
