@2351onthelist@Fergie_CJ If Scotland genuinely was a drain on the UK taxpayer there would be a much larger movement for English independence. There's not because no one will make that argument seriously. It's by design that the SE of England props up the UK economy. iScotland would become a competitor.
@B0mberHarris@2351onthelist Nothing would have been overnight. A yes victory would have set in motion negotiations to leave the UK and would also allow negotiations to begin elsewhere such as the EU or EFTA.
It would have taken years from the yes vote to actually leave.
@ch_talks_to The question on an iScotland is about ending the union of 1707 which Scotland was part of.
Those areas within Scotland will be better served by a gov in Scotland than one hundreds of miles away.
If you want to campaign for creating smaller autonomous regions you can.
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax No. Its to rejoin a much bigger trading bloc and develop a mutually beneficial relationship with our nearest neighbours rather than being governed by them.
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax Even as a devolved gov though they still out perform the rest of the UKs devolved govs and the Westminster gov in a number of areas.
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax Yeah I'm sure our economy hasn't been hindered by any other major events over the years like leaving a massive trading bloc against the wishes of our voters.
The SNP are a devolved gov. They don't have the power to be held to the same standards of an iScotlands gov.
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax Like our successful nordic and EU neighbours we'd create an enviro 4 business growth and investment, borrow money that actually is spent here rather than being assigned UK debt, tax accordingly and create a fairer and more equal society which itself is worth an adjustment period.
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax Investment does. Creating a desirable place to build a workforce does. Being in direct competition with London would.
All things gov can influence via policy.
Cuts aren't the only way. They would be part of it and there would be a period of adjustment.
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax Our own government in an indy Scotland would focus on growth and investment here.
This would create more jobs, more tax opportunities etc ie the deficit preciously mentioned would not exist.
Different choices on spending can also be taken such as military etc reducing it further
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax Obviously this is not what I mean.
As a former PM said a pound spent in Croydon is of much more value to the country than a pound spent in Strathclyde
The UK benefits from prioritising economic growth and activity hundreds of miles from Scotland and leaving Sco economy as it is
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax No one serious stands over the too poor argument it's a debunked stance.
Scotland has such a deficit while in the UK. It has this by design. The UK doesn't work for Scotland it has no interest in improving it.
Only with indy can we hope to match our neighbours performance.
@MarinaPurkiss@JeremyVineOn5 They are the same as the Tory party.
In Scotland they pretend to be "Scottish" Labour but they do exactly what they are told to do by London HQ regardless if that negatively impacts Scotland.
They lied to get into power. They won't change anything as they like the trough as it is
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax It's not possible. You can't create exact data that doesn't exist. You can best guess and work off real world examples but it won't be in line with existing uk data which would be erroneously used to discredit it.
No one seriously doubts Scotlands viability as an indy nation.
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax No one can.
The best that can be done is to look at real world examples of similar neighbouring nations see that we aren't doing as well within the UK and then take into account the developed state of Scotland, its educated primarily English speaking workforce etc for its success
@StewartNial@antonodonellatc@scotfax The figures of a Scotland within the UK. Held back as investment there isn't worth as much to the UK as investment hundreds or miles away.
The figures do not equate to an independent Scotlands spending.
@LikestoC@beith123 The UK and the EU are in no way similar. The UK didn't have to ask to hold a vote to leave.
The EU listens to its members and allows vetos. Scotland is ignored.
The EU isn't even our only option. Some of us would rather closer Nordic relations and joining EFTA
@Johncarpet5469@beith123 Why do those who believe that and support the UK think its okay to keep on scrounging instead of working to build their own separate economy?
@MikeDav59992742@beith123 The king didn't give a hoot about anything but more wealth and power for himself. He returned to Scotland once during his reign boasting of ruling the North with a stroke of his pen. That aside the union wasn't formed under him it was over 100 years later that happened.
@NorthamMal48305@Humanistforindy We missed the boat on oil but its a key thing to look at regarding independence. The UK gov hid the true value of the resource. They mismanaged it so diabolocally that we may as well not have discovered it in Scotland.
Using what's left would give iScotland a good economic start.
