Yesterday, we had the privilege of spending the evening at the Humberside Police Federation Bravery Awards, where the heroic duo, PC Tom Marsden and PD Yoiko, received their Federation Bravery Award, with Yoiko attending the ceremony in a very dapper tuxedo.
Back in 2024, PC Marsden and PD Yoiko detained a
violent suspect armed with a shovel inside a building that had been set on fire. During the incident, Yoiko put himself in harm’s way to protect PC Marsden and prevent the suspect from harming other officers at the scene. Together, they bravely and successfully arrested the suspect.
Their extraordinary bravery saw them receive the Thin Blue Paw Outstanding Bravery Award last year, and yesterday’s recognition was truly well deserved. 👏💙🐶🇬🇧
Tonight, we ask that you keep retired police dog Bane, who served with Cambridgeshire Police as a general purpose and firearms support dog for six years, in your thoughts and prayers. 🙏
Our team has spent the day with him and his family at a specialist veterinary practice due to a sudden decline in his health, and it is with great sadness that, following extensive tests, Bane has been diagnosed with an incurable form of cardiac cancer.
He is remaining at the vets overnight and will be spending the coming weeks and months making extra special memories with his family, while being supported with additional treatment funded by the Foundation.
For six years you served with courage and loyalty, Bane. Now it is our turn to stand with you and your family every step of the way. 🐶🇬🇧🚔💙
Last week, RPD Riley, who served with Derbyshire Police and recently needed over £7,000 in life saving surgery for sepsis, joined our Founder, Kieran Stanbridge, to visit the team at #No1CopperPot to collect a very generous donation of £10,000. We are incredibly grateful to them for this donation, which will enable us to continue to be there for retired police dogs across the country in their time of need. Thank you! 💙🐶🚔🇬🇧
Retired Police Dog Izzy proudly served with the Police Service of Northern Ireland as a Counter Terrorist Specialist Firearms Dog until her retirement in September 2025.
Recently, Izzy has been a little under the weather and has required ongoing veterinary investigations due to internal bleeding.
Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to cover the full cost of Izzy’s veterinary treatment, helping to ensure a speedy recovery and a long, happy retirement with her handler.
Izzy is a nine-year-old Belgian Shepherd, bred in Holland. She was purchased by the PSNI and partnered with a CTSFO handler, completing her conflict management dog training in 2018.
After more than 100 deployments alongside her firearms family, Izzy retired in September 2025 to live with her handler.
Get well soon, Izzy 💙🐶🚔
It was a scary start to the month, as retired police dog Riley was rushed to the vets with sepsis. Riley served as a general purpose police dog with Derbyshire Police until his retirement in 2022, when fellow police officer Scott gave him a forever home.
Scott said: “Riley was dying in front of us. We rushed him to the vets and had a heartbreaking conversation. I contacted the Thin Blue Paw and within five minutes they were there for us.”
Riley underwent life-saving surgery on 6th December to treat the sepsis and clean the wound. Against the odds, he was able to come home. The treatment to save Riley’s life cost over £7,000, which was funded in full by the Foundation.
Now back where he belongs, Riley is recovering with his family and is able to enjoy another very special Christmas together. 🎄💙 It truly is a Christmas miracle for this brave boy. 🐾✨
R.I.P PD Zyla from Leicestershire Police 🌈
Zyla has been named as the police dog who died on duty yesterday, after trying to detain a suspect wanted for attempted murder. Our thoughts are with her handler at this very difficult time. Rest easy now Zyla, your bravery will not be forgotten. 🐶💙🇬🇧
RPD Didi & RPD Goose are enjoying well deserved retirements after serving with West Midlands Police dog unit. They're the very best of friends and we're proud to be supporting them in thier golden years! 💙🇬🇧🐶
WE NEED YOUR HELP! 💙
September has been our busiest and most expensive month ever, following unprecedented demand. We now face claims totalling more than £45,000 from September alone, for 21 dogs, some of whom have needed life-saving surgery and specialist treatment, including:
Eight-year-old German Shepherd Neeko – who served with Suffolk & Norfolk Police for seven years - needed major surgery to repair a damaged disc in his spine which left him unable to stand of walk, costing £9,500;
German Shepherd Bear also had herniated discs in his spine, requiring an operation costing £8,200. The 10-year-old – served with Sussex Police and still volunteers as a wellbeing dog for police staff – is now undergoing hydrotherapy and physiotherapy;
Eleven-year-old springer spaniel Zuma was a sniffer dog with Suffolk & Norfolk Police and had two bouts of illness over the summer with investigations eventually discovering a lodged grass seed which had caused infection. Treatment so far has cost £9,150;
Retired Ministry of Defence Police dog Max, a five-year-old Belgian Malinois from Cornwall, needed surgery after rupturing the cruciate ligament in his leg at a cost of £4,780;
Former Surrey Police dog, Fiji, an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois, required veterinary investigations and scans for suspected degenerative myelopathy, costing £3,150.
With 390 dogs signed up for support from us, we never know what’s around the corner and we’re calling on you to help us pay for these bills and ensure we have money in the bank to help those dogs who may need us next month. We are funded solely by donations from members of the public, so please give what you can to support these heroic dogs in need.

Retired Police Dog Finn from @sussex_police fell critically ill on 8th May 2023 and it was touch-and-go whether he’d pull through. His emergency and specialist veterinary care has totalled £22,800 and we're proud to be there for his family, supporting them through this difficult time.
