The Lost Files: Subject – TYRANNOSAURUS REX “BUCK” (ID: TR-02 // December 17, 1990)
Files recovered at Isla Sorna, February 3, 1999
Specimen TR-02, nicknamed “Buck” by InGen’s incubation staff, was the first viable male Tyrannosaurus rex successfully conceived within the Isla Sorna facility. From the moment of hatching, the specimen exhibited physical development outside of projected parameters, displaying above-average body mass even during its first few weeks of life.
Buck was raised within a controlled forest enclosure alongside the female specimen TR-03, later known as Doe. Although both developed an exceptional behavioral bond, individual records of TR-02 reveal that the male exhibited distinct traits: a more dominant temperament, stronger territorial impulses, and a natural tendency to take the lead during simulated hunts and group movements.
As his accelerated growth progressed, the veterinary team began to detect unusual muscle development in the cervical, dorsal, and mandibular regions. Not only was Buck growing faster than any other Tyrannosaurus recorded by InGen, but he also appeared to tolerate prolonged levels of physical exertion without significant signs of exhaustion.
During controlled feeding trials, the specimen displayed a bite force far exceeding what would be expected for his age. On one occasion, Buck partially fractured a hydraulic mechanism designed to withstand the impacts of large adult thropods. The incident necessitated a redesign of the enclosure's internal systems and an upgrade to their operational classification.
Unlike Rexy, whose territorial dominance was more instinctive and intimidating, Buck displayed more active and aggressive behavior when asserting control of his environment. Ethological records indicate that he constantly patrolled the enclosure boundaries, marking specific routes and reacting immediately to unfamiliar sounds or unusual movements.
Note from Jesús Gayosso – Veterinary Surgeon specializing in medicine and surgery: “Buck was one of the most physically demanding animals we had to monitor. His muscle growth was so rapid that we needed to constantly check his joints, bone density, and metabolic levels to prevent structural failures due to his sheer size. Even under partial sedation, this specimen's energy expenditure remained extraordinary. It was clear that we were dealing with a Tyrannosaurus designed to physically dominate any environment.”
Behavioral observations also recorded a strong social dependence on Doe during the juvenile stages. However, it was Buck who initiated most of the movement, pursuit, and exploratory maneuvers within the communal enclosure.
As he matured into a subadult, Buck began emitting low-frequency vocalizations capable of eliciting immediate responses from both other nearby thropods and the lower fauna within the perimeter. Some staff members described these vocalizations as "a warning before the storm."
Note from Robert Muldoon – Security Chief:
"Rexy is dangerous because she knows she's in control. Buck is different... Buck always wants to prove it. This male never stops patrolling; he never stops assessing his surroundings. And when you're with Doe, you quickly realize that these aren't just two large animals; they're a pair who have learned to work together from the very beginning. That turns any mistake into a death sentence." “
After extensive evaluation, the InGen committee decided that Buck should remain permanently at Isla Sorna under protocols of remote observation and minimal human interference. His size, structural strength, and dominant behavior far exceeded the standards envisioned for any future tourist facility.
The TR-02 specimen was kept within a vast forest enclosure, specifically designed to withstand high-impact movements, natural hunting areas, and long-range monitoring. Unnecessary close-range maneuvers were prohibited, and any future medical intervention would require direct authorization from Advanced...
