On the one hand, the Galvanic Rifle being the bastard child of a Lee Enfield and a Garand is very on point for technology derived from STC blueprints. On the other hand, the animations not accounting for ammo in the magazine is just lazy.

No, because Ted was ultimately a hero who, despite his suffering, got to revel in the fact that he not only saved his friends from eternal suffering, but also got the better of his torturer. His end is mostly bitter, but still ever-so slightly sweet.
Jax, meanwhile, is just a self-centered psycho who caused his friends to kill themselves by gaslighting, neglecting, and abusing them constantly. There's no redemption or victory for him - he's just an awful person.
