The issue is this comes in two flavors and they are not the same, but people lump them together as if they are.

1- woman and man are friends, and they actually treat each other like real friends, splitting the bill and giving each other gifts etc- this is fine

2- woman and man are “friends”. Man pays for everything, does everything he can to help the women, fixes problems. Women never reciprocates and is only there for her “friend” if it’s a convenient time for her to get a free meal and drinks
