Moffat wrote his doctors with such a deep understanding of lore, motives and characterisation because any doctor could in theory have a goodbye like this.
Yet somehow it doesn’t put 11 on a pedestal like 10’s “I don’t wanna go” to the fans did.
This goodbye feels sincere.

the best thing moffat did in my opinion is make the TARDIS an actual setting in the capaldi era, it’s such a great backdrop for drama between the doctor and his companions
I’m not saying I wish that the show ended with this scene but imagine how much more impactful an open-ended regeneration scene could’ve been where the Doctor comes to a powerful realization and the show ends with a hopeful note, a bit like this scene 💕
