Morgott kneels before the mantle of thorns. His palm resting against the lattice of grace-woven spikes.

"Mother... Why hast thou bestowed grace upon a wretched creature such as I, if not to restore thy order? Why dost thou deny my entry? Hath I not served thee faithfully?"

Even now, in the age of the Shattering. When much of what was once blessed and holy now stands blighted and withered.

Despite the treachery of the demigods, the might of their armies, and the wrath of the very dragons themselves...

Leyndell still stands. Sacred, and unbroken.

The lord of Leyndell defends his city with an iron fist.

Indeed, the mighty legions of soldiers, sentinels, creatures, and constructs that safeguard the capital are amongst the deadliest in the Lands Between.

But none compare to that most horrible of enforcers. Margit The Fell.

Perhaps thou shall be the first.

The thing smiled. The movement causing the torn and taught flesh to creak and rip. Causing its acidic blood to spill upon the floor.

"Odd? Perhaps. But I alone stand at the precipice of deliverance..."

Its voice was a rasping hollow thing. A mangled mockery of speech.

As the revelation settles into Axiom’s data banks, he feels both comfort and unease. Comfort in finding another paradoxical being, unease in one that seems to have embraced the end itself, yet stands against it.

“You’re an odd one, aren’t you? Standing against all odds.”

His systems would surely find fault within their own cycles of logic, for the being before Axiom defied the laws of nature.

This thing should be dead. Yet it lives. Thrives even. Its mere presence a wound within the fabric of the universe. A ravenous icon writ in flesh.

Madness, a fascinating concept for those unaccustomed to the abstract, as most beings are.

He never knew the warmth of flesh, having initially manifested without any natural equivalent.

Axiom’s reinforced frame stares back, artificial eyes analyzing their differences.

by the shackles of mortality!"

It smiled again. Wretchedly. Sadistically.

"Perhaps I shall teach them to covet injury as I do... For that is the only path to salvation. Some are meant for the plough, yes. But for those who know not the agonies of life? The flail shall suffice."

The thing lowered its decrepit hand, and gestured towards itself. A well practiced motion of rapturous acceptance.

"What you see before you is a monument to the sins of this world. Every scar, a blessing. Every wound, a doorway to the divine. I am a living prayer to any god that

What madness would drive a sane being to forgo their flesh?

To never again know the kiss of the lash, the feeling of talon and sword cleaving into bone...

The last shreds of my mortal heart quiver at the thought. Damn them!
