Ryan Fitzgerald has had 2,516 at-bats throughout his minor league career.
The 31-year-old HOMERED for his first major league hit in his fourth MLB at-bat 🚀
Top prospect and VELO Sports Ambassador Dax Kilby showed off some elite exit velocity, hitting a max of 107.5 during his hitting session on day 1 of the 2025 MLB Combine
What is MOI and how does it affect your bat? ⬇️
Think of moment of inertia, or “MOI”, as the effective weight of the bat when we're trying to swing it rotationally around us.
The higher the MOI, the more resistance, the heavier the bat is, the slower we swing it
The lower the MOI, the less resistance we have, the lighter the bat, the faster we can swing it.
When we add the 2.2 oz VELO Puck to the end of a bat, we are moving the balance of the bat closer to the hands and reducing the MOI of that bat.
This gives the bat an effectively lighter feel, which we are seeing allows players to increase their bat speeds and exit velos.
VELO Sports is proud to be a sponsor of the @OfficialCCBL!
We are excited for the VELO OverSpeed training bat and VELO Puck Knob to be part of the CCBL for the 2025 season.
VELO OverSpeed is a bat speed training system that features a base bat that is 20% lighter than game bats and two weight sleeves that are added throughout training to make the bat 10% lighter and ultimately 5% heavier than your game bat.
VELO OverSpeed includes online training led by top hitting coach and former MLB & CCBL Player @MattAAntonelli.
The VELO Puck is an attachable puck knob to counterbalance metal and wood bats. The VELO Puck is approved for in-game use this CCBL season.
Why put a puck knob on your bat?
The VELO Puck adds 2.2oz (small)/2.3oz (large) to the end of a bat, which shifts the balance point more towards the handle of the bat.
This acts as a counterbalance, which
✅ makes the barrel of the bat feel lighter
✅ helps players swing faster
✅ helps players stay on plane through the zone longer
The puck is legal for in game use for many different leagues, including but not limited to Perfect game events, USSSA, NABF league, HS baseball and softball.
Does the VELO Puck Increase Exit Velo?
We took D1 player Andrew Sundean through a quick baseline bat speed and exit velo test swinging his normal game bat. We then added a VELO Puck and tracked bat speed and exit velo for several more swings.
The Results with the VELO Puck -
📈 Avg bat speed increased 1.6 mph
📈 Avg exit velo increased 2.6 mph

Does a Puck Knob Bat Make a Difference? ⬇️
Brice Turang kicked off the season with a 12 game hitting streak and is currently hitting .333 with 3 home runs powered by significant increases in several advanced stats.
One of the big changes Brice made this past offseason was changing to a using a puck knob bat.
Jake McKibbin with https://t.co/RGHPMiCFR3 has great write up on what Brice struggled with in 2023 and what factors are contributing to his early season surge.
Jake says "This season, as a result of some of the changes to his hand position, the size of his bat knob, and (I’m sure) other tweaks, the bat path is a lot flatter through the zone, allowing him to get on top of those high four-seamers. As a result, early on, you can see how this has reduced his swing and miss in the upper third [of the strike zone]."
In Brice's advanced metrics from Baseball Savant, we also see several of the benefits we expect to see from adding a puck knob -
✅ A 6.6mph increase in average exit velo from 2024, putting Brice in the 91st percentile
✅ A 3.2mph increase in average bat speed from 2024
✅ Sweet spot rate up 9.9% from 2024
Want to feel the same improvement in plane, launch angle, and exit velo that has made the puck increasingly popular in MLB WITHOUT having to buy a whole new bat?
Check out the VELO Puck!
✅ Fits most aluminum and wood bats
✅ Approved for in-game use by many leagues

@ali44newland hitting 92mph with the VELO OverSpeed training system!
When speed training, we want you to swing every swing at your ABSOLUTE fastest.
This is one of the main reasons we do dry swings with VELO OverSpeed, so the focus can 100% be on swinging fast.
Our goal during speed training is to raise your top-end max swing speed ceiling so that your comfortable and controllable in-game swing speed becomes faster.

The Torpedo Bat in Major League Baseball has generated significant interest this week around how changing the dynamics of the baseball bat - specifically moving weight down towards the hands - can help hitters improve performance.
Jeff Passan noted in his article “What is a torpedo bat? Inside MLB's next big thing” for ESPN that
“The science is multifold. Beyond the potential increases in exit velocity from the increased mass in the barrel, the weight distribution toward the knob should promote faster swings.
Among the five Yankees who have used the bat, all have seen bat-velocity increases year over year, with Volpe up more than 3 mph, Bellinger up 2.5, Wells 2, Chisholm 1.1 and Goldschmidt -- an inveterate tinkerer who has also used bats with hockey-puck-shaped knobs -- 0.3 mph."
The “hockey-puck-shaped knobs” Passan referred to is exactly what the VELO Puck is.
The VELO Puck attaches to the end of your game bat, shifting the balance point towards the handle.
This reduces the MOI of the bat which helps improve exit velos and bat speeds while making the bat feel more balanced.
BONUS: You don’t have to buy a whole new bat to test whether changing the weight distribution of a bat can help your players.
The VELO Puck fits on most bats and is approved for in-game use by many leagues.
Bat speed isn’t just about power — it’s about making better decisions at the plate.
Faster swings = more time to see the pitch, gather info, and swing at the right ball. 🧠⚾️
Adding bat speed is a game-changer for hitters at every level.

⚾ How pros train bat speed ⬇️
Players at the highest level are turning to the VELO OverSpeed Training System to train fast, play fast, and boost their performance.
OverSpeed training works by reducing the weight of the bat - the VELO base bat is 20% lighter than your game bat - to allow your body to swing MUCH faster than normal.
In just a few swings, your brain 🧠 remembers this faster speed and starts to expect it.
We then add back weight with two stacking weighted sleeves and see huge gains in bat speed.

How D1 Softball Players Train Bat Speed ⬇️
D1 Softball Players Kendra Falby and Kendal Clark trained bat speed with VELO OverSpeed this past offseason.
How does VELO OverSpeed work?
The VELO OverSpeed base bat is 20% lighter than your game bat.
By reducing the bat's weight, we allow your body to swing much faster 🏎️ than normal.
In just a few swings, your brain 🧠 remembers this faster speed and starts to expect it.
We then add back weight with two weighted sleeves and see HUGE gains in bat speed 📈
Our free online level 1 training is only 39 dry swings, which takes about 10-15 minutes to do.
If you want to swing faster, you have to train faster ⬇️
By reducing the weight of the VELO OverSpeed base bat, we allow your body to swing much faster than normal.
In just a few swings, your brain remembers this faster speed and starts to expect it.
We then add back weight to the VELO OverSpeed training system with two stacking weight sleeves and see huge gains in bat speed.
⚾🥎 Why does bat speed matter?
The relationship between bat speed and exit velo is linear - if you swing faster, you will hit the ball harder.
+1 mph of bat speed = +1.2 mph of exit velo = 7 feet of distance
Harder hit balls have higher probabilities of success because
✅ there is less time for the defense to react
✅ higher exit velos create fly balls that go farther
So how do you get more bat speed?
VELO OverSpeed is the fastest way to increase bat speed.
We typically see players increase their bat speed by 6mph on average after 6 weeks of training.
+6 mph of bat speed = +7.2 mph of exit velo = 42 feet of distance
Big things ahead! 🚀
