This evening, I joined other Heads of Election Observer Missions to pay a courtesy call on Senegalese President, His Excelleny Macky Sall, and offer our felicitations to him and the people of Senegal for the peaceful conduct of yesterday's Presidential election.
I am particularly pleased with the maturity and patriotism shown by Senegalese leaders during this election and commend them for their sportsmanship, especially as both President Sall and the ruling coalition presidential candidate Amadou Ba have called to congratulate the opposition candidate, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, even as the final results are yet to be declared by the election management body.
As the nation awaits the official declaration of the March 24, 2024 presidential election results, I urge the good people of Senegal to maintain law and order in order to protect the enviable reputation of their country as a beacon of democracy and stability in the sub-region

Today, I am pleased to have arrived in Dakar with members of the West African Elders Forum (@TheWAEF ) Mediation Mission, ahead of Senegal's presidential election scheduled to hold on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
Sunday's election is very significant because it will mark the country's fourth democratic transfer of power since independence and further deepen the roots of democracy in Senegal.
We wish the people of Senegal a peaceful and successful election as the nation seeks to consolidate its position as a strong pillar of stability in West Africa.

In continuation of the West African Elders Forum ( @TheWAEF ) Election Mediation Mission to Liberia's last general elections, I returned to Monrovia today to meet with His Excellency President George Weah and the President-Elect His Excellency Joseph Boakai, as they begin processes for a peaceful power transition.
My consultations with both of them was quite reassuring. I am pleased with their sense of co-operation, purpose and patriotism as well as their determination to rally all Liberians to work for the unity, peace and progress of the country.
I believe all of West Africa has something to learn from Liberian's elections, especially with President Weah's selflessness in calling to concede and congratulate the President-Elect and the demonstrated commitment of all stakeholders to put the interest of the country above personal or party considerations.

LIBERIA WINS, DEMOCRACY GAINS
Having led the West African Elders Forum (@TheWAEF ) Mediation Mission to both the October 10, 2023, general elections and the November 14, 2023, Presidential run-off poll in Liberia, I am deeply pleased with the successful outcome of the democratic process and look forward to a peaceful transition in January 2024.
I congratulate the President-Elect His Excellency Joseph Boakai and urge him to be magnanimous in victory and seek to continue the efforts to unite and advance his country.
I am also particularly grateful to the outgoing President His Excellency George Weah, who has just conceded defeat and congratulated his opponent even ahead of the official declaration of the final result by the National Election Commission of Liberia. By doing this, President Weah has exhibited an exemplary display of statesmanship and commitment to the peace and progress of his country.
I am delighted that at the end of the exercise, Liberia wins, democracy gains and our sub-region, ECOWAS, is better for it.

“We urge political parties to caution their supporters to refrain from all acts that could incite violence and division among the people, especially now that the country is already at a critical stage in the electoral process.”
of results and celebration by supporters before the official announcement by NEC.
Urging calm, @GEJonathan also charged the political leaders to direct their followers to leave the streets where they are already celebrating to avoid violent clashes.
We consider this development as a distraction to the violence-free election the Farmington River Declaration intends to achieve. We are therefore calling on the political leaders to direct their supporters to leave the streets to avoid violent clashes among the youths.
