🚨BREAKING : Brussels saw clashes Friday as a national strike against planned budget cuts drew about 30,000 union members and students into the capital

Police said the march itself stayed largely peaceful until masked groups broke away near the central station.

Those groups threw rocks, bricks, and fireworks and set fires.

Officers responded with tear gas, water cannons, and baton charges.

At least 21 people were detained, including minors.

Police said the rioters were not part of the union march.
