Some movies are sent to theatres in different aspect ratios to better compliment their setup. The Odyssey itself will be available in like 6 different frame sizes.

That’s completely and utterly false. Dunkirk was shown in thousands of screens with massive black bars. We had to put a sign up in our “SuperScreen” telling customers that’s how Nolan WANTS them to see it.

@EwanCartwright @zandpreme @BattyWanderer You are splitting hairs though. Many theatres have large format screens as a gimmick anyway. Devising a way to show the IMAX frame on those set ups shouldn’t be impossible. You’re obsessed with detail on what are already massive screens.

@istartedthebits @BattyWanderer How films are sent to theatres is decided based on numerous factors. No we don’t show any old films really, or at least not regularly, but we do show a lot of drama, music biopics, geriatric type films with old actors IN them. They are only provided to us in Flat (4:3).

@EwanCartwright @BattyWanderer You could if the effort was made to make it possible but there’s a financial motivation for IMAX not to allow it. I’ve been programming cinemas for years, including the IMAX at Glasgow a few years ago. There are plenty of screens large enough to accommodate the frame with detail.
