There’s a new type of child investment account launching in 2026: the Trump Account.
Most headlines focus on the $1,000 bonus for newborns.
But it’s actually available to all children under 18.
Here's how it works and some thoughts based on what we know today: 👇
Bottom line:
Trump Accounts provide meaningful benefits for lower-income families (e.g. free money) and may offer strategic opportunities for high earners, especially those the self-employed.
But for most middle-income families, 529 plans and UTMAs should be prioritized.
6/ Forgetting to update insurance coverage. Easy to overlook, but term life and umbrella policies cost little and become essential as your income grows.
5/ Be careful assuming your income will always rise. If it jumped 30%, celebrate! But avoid locking into high fixed costs. Being over-leveraged in downturns hurts.
