I built Dawat because I couldn’t find reliable Grab services while traveling to the provinces of the Cordillera Administrative Region. We will first test and launch the platform across Ifugao, where many of our fellow mountain communities run businesses but still lack access to faster innovation and wider markets. Once the model is validated, we plan to expand into neighboring provinces.

What Does “Dawat” Mean?

Many people ask us: What does Dawat mean, and where did the name come from?

Dawat is a word deeply rooted in the languages of the Cordilleras and the Philippines. In Ifugao, it carries two connected meanings:

To receive or accept.
To give, offer, or present.

It represents both sides of an exchange, the person who gives and the person who receives. In today’s world, that same idea can mean to buy and to sell, to request and to provide, to seek an opportunity and to offer one.
