3. As Nostradamus says, "Because it's entertaining!" It is a modern comedic musical that leans into feeling like an old school musical. It has the big musical numbers, witty banter, glitz and glam, and will have audiences clutching their stomachs from laughing for 2 hours.
I have shared this with a few people privately but I am going to publicly share that I would adore if the @GuthrieTheater mounts a production of Something Rotten as their 2028 musical.
Here are my reasons why:
2. It fits into the Guthrie's mission to highlight Shakespeare. Tyron Guthrie wanted Shakespeare to remain a core part of the organization. Just like Born with Teeth did, Something Rotten incorporates the person of Shakespeare without being one of the Bard's actual shows.
It has been more than 50 years since Waiting for Godot has been mounted on the @GuthrieTheater stage. That changes this September.
