Full story below. So yeah, the ice cream has hollow spots on the top and bottom where it melted.
Updated information from my wife on the packaging and feedback, which I feel is a gift. Here is the feedback:
The packages I received from Amazon each contained an 8-pack with one bag of dry ice. So that’s one bag of dry ice for 8 containers—two bags total for 16.
However, the melted product purchased directly from Rebel had a single dry ice bag was for all 16 containers. My expectation is that if you use one bag of dry ice for 8 pints, then you should use two bags (double the amount) for 16 pints.
Two ice cubes will keep a drink cooler than one ice cube.
Please refund or replace the order directly from the factory for the 16 melted pints.
Now to the second issue: I am very particular about my ice cream melting. I’ve had multiple fights with my wife about buying this expensive brand only for it to arrive soft or melted when I open it. Nothing is more disappointing than looking forward to a pint only for it to be ruined due to refreezing.
We primarily bought it from Walmart—over 200 pints while they carried it. I experienced melting on occasion and assumed it was my wife not insulating it properly on the 45-minute trip home. To mitigate this, we did the following:
We always used freezer bags and ice packs. In addition, if she was picking up ice cream, she would make it her last stop to minimize melting in the car. We would put the ice cream directly into freezer bags in the store along with ice packs, or we would buy other solid frozen products at Walmart to use as ice packs.
Guess what? I still got ice cream that was hollow on the top and/or bottom. I even checked my freezer because on my last trip, all my Rebel pints were gritty and frozen no matter the precautions I took.
This caused many fights with my wife (and daughter) about how my ice cream was getting melted between the store and home.
After my recent Amazon order, I realized all the melting must have occurred at the factory, during shipping to Walmart, or at Walmart itself. The way I know this is because of the alternative up-down stacking used to save space. There were pints that were hollow on the bottom and hollow on the top. I always stack mine upright, so any melting on my end would always be at the top of the container, not the bottom.
Please confirm whether you ship to Walmart and whether melting occurs between Rebel and Walmart, or before Walmart stocks the shelves. This probably explains why Walmart no longer carries this product.
So how do we make this right for the roughly $1,000 I’ve spent over the past couple of years on product, fights with my wife and daughter, a fridge technician visit to check my freezer, a new thermistor purchased and installed, a temperature monitor added to my freezer, and ultimately moving your product to our spare chest freezer just to be sure it wasn’t the issue?
All this energy, time, and money wasted when it apparently comes down to simply using an extra bag of dry ice.
I’m very disappointed, but my wife feels vindicated that it wasn’t her fault all this time. The attached information shows what was bought with just my wife’s Walmart account—this does not include any pints I or my daughter purchased. We can’t get it at Walmart anymore anyway. My estimate is that I’ve had over 40 bad pints over the past couple of years.
How can we make this right?
