#BREAKING#NingolChakouba#Manipur
Standing by the victims of the ongoing ethnic conflict, Meitei womenfolk on Wednesday forwent โNingol Chakkoubaโ their biggest festival even as groups of them staged hunger strike at various places in the valley districts as a mark of respect to those killed in the strife.
This came a couple of days after people in the valley districts, in the same line of discontentment, switched off lights for ten minutes on the occasion of Diwali.
On Ningol Chakkouba day, Meitei women, particularly the married ones, put in their best traditional clothes, visit their natal homes and enjoy an array of mouth-watering dishes with their siblings and parents.
But this yearโs Ningol Chakkouba wore a gloomy look with business establishments at Kwairamband Keithel in Imphal city, the key commercial hub of the state, came to a grinding halt and a few people were seen in the streets.
โOwing to the current crisis which has remained unresolved for the last six months, with more than 50 thousand people displaced from their homes, and many getting killed how can we celebrate Ningol Chakkouba this year?โ, lamented women activist, Thounaojam Ashakiran (47) of Kongba in Imphal East district.
She along with a few womenfolk took to the street this morning at Kongba Bazar to express their solidarity of not celebrating the festival.
Ashakiran continued that this yearโs Ningol Chakkouba will go down in the history of Manipur as one of the darkest days, as the age-old tradition has been sidelined in order to show solidarity with the victims of violence on the day.
She appealed to both the Centre and the state government to sincerely work towards bringing about a lasting peace so that the displaced people can safely return to their respective homes without any fear. #NoHomeNoChakouba #SaveManipur #KukiChinZoNarcoTerrorists #KukiAtrocities

#BREAKING#Moreh#Manipur#JusticeForSDPOAnand
In the aftermath of gunning down of sub-divisional police officer Chingtham Anand Kumar at Manipurโs Moreh by suspected Kuki miscreants, tension gripped the border town with Chin-Kuki-Zo community alleging atrocities against them by the state security forces.
The 10 Chin-Kuki-Zo MLAs, who have been in self-exile due to concerns over Manipurโs potential disintegration along ethnic lines, have accused the state forces of excessive violence against their community during search operations.
The MLAs alleged that Manipur police commandos committed atrocities in Sinam Kuki Village, attacking Kuki houses and properties, a claim contradicted by the police, who deny the occurrence of such acts.
At least 3 police personnel were injured when they were ambushed at Sinam village by well-armed suspected Chin-Kuki-Zo militants when they were rushed in as reinforcement after the killing of the SDPO in Moreh, led by an Inspector General of Police, Themthing Ngashangva.
The MLAs further alleged that State forces during search operations at the international border town of Moreh, resorted to arson, indiscriminate firing, looting of civilian properties, and unprovoked brutality, including assaulting women, forcing common people, including women and children to flee into the nearby jungle.
Rejecting the allegations, a senior paramilitary officer, who took part in the joint operation, on the condition of anonymity, stated that no such incidents took place, and explained that the troopers are equipped with video cameras, which would have recorded any wrongful actions during the operations.

Even Manipurโs security advisor, Kuldiep Singh has gone on record saying the sniper and the group involved in the killing of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Chingtham Anand Kumar in Moreh have been identified and an all-out effort is underway to nab culprits, highly placed sources said that the fatal attack was the handiwork of a newly set up group christened Peopleโs Protection Force (PPF).
The sources, who donโt want to be named, said the shooting of the police officer was executed under the supervision of a commander of a Kuki militant outfit which is currently under the Suspension of Operation (SoO), a tripartite ceasefire agreement with the state government and the Centre.
While the Security Advisor stopped short of revealing the identities of the people and group involved in the dastardly act that killed the decorated police officer, they alleged that the PPF, based at Moreh, had been planning to ambush the State Policeโs Special Commandos deployed to maintain law and order at the border town.
