I also had always assumed that lighthouses turn on when it gets dark, like street lights. But at least the one at Port Bickerton is on all the time and you don't notice until it's dark! By the end of these two weeks I will be an official lighthouse scientist

I can't believe I didn't know until today that modern lighthouses are entirely powered by a light bulb the size of my thumb. The others are just backups! That's just how well that beautifully intricate glass refracts the light

Whoops accidentally deleted my foghorn tweet. Decided to cautiously test out the hearing damage foghorn warning this morning, and was rudely interrupted when I tried to record the foghorn going off

I started filming to catch the sound, and of course as soon as I started the fog horn refused to go off. But just as I started to make a fantastic joke about foghorns refusing to blow when I want them to, it went and interrupted me
