The grad students are in the throes of grant writing. I posted this on the lab door to keep morale up. 😅😇😬
Remember, if your file name has twelve versions of “final,” you are doing it right. We’re almost to the finish line! Keep pushing! 😂📚📝
I just received a decision today on my NYABG human microbiome paper, which goes back to my PhD research. 🙃
But this post isn’t only about the paper. After years of pushing through doubts, debates, & tough reviews, I was surprised to get this from the infamous Reviewer #2 🥲:
So excited to head into my 3rd year on the tenure track!
As I prep, here’s my advice to new Asst Prof’s: PROTECT YOUR TIME. Be intentional w/ collaborations, even w/ sr faculty. Being junior doesn’t mean doing all the work. Ask what they bring & set expectations from the start🙃
This academic year has been such a roller coaster. Honestly, if the Illuminati is recruiting academics, I’m a great public speaker and I just need a few million for research. Let’s talk. 🤣🥲
Confession #426: Around this time each year, I wear my academic regalia while running errands. The result? People are noticeably kinder, and occasionally, I receive complimentary items. For instance, during dinner outings, a free dessert often finds its way to our table. 😄🎓😝
I’d love to see the audit report on my academic browsing history as I prepare for our field days:
“Medical cabinet for human remains”
“Tools for excavating fragile bones”
“Transport supplies for human remains”
Just another day in the life...🤣 #FieldWork#Research#Bioarchaeology
It’s official… I’ve joined the ranks of the bespectacled. 🤓 After years of reading my way through college and grad school with 20/20 vision, my eye exam this morning confirmed I’ll need to start wearing glasses.
Here’s to the end of an era! 🍻
I thought the flood of work emails would start on Monday (first day of the semester), but nope—they kicked off yesterday 😅🥲
At least I had the courtesy to schedule mine for a fresh week after the holiday! 🗓️ #AcademicLife#InboxOverflow
My students surprised me with an end of the year appreciation/ bday lunch!😬🥲
I guess this is what happens when you create an environment where people enjoy coming to work everyday. 🙃
